another note I left on his hospital bedstand
(July 15, 1998)

Dearest, my Love,

It's so hard to be home without you
the air is empty not hearing your voice
I try sitting in your chair to feel you
You'd be there if it were your choice

Well... close your eyes,
and hold my hand
let's think of all the good we can...

'Let's run out real quick to catch the sunrise
it's so big and so yellow and orange and so bright
as it reaches just the top of the water
so quiet, so beautiful... all ours'

It was all ours for a little while...
the beach, the sun, the boardwalk,
the sunrise and sunset,
the lovemaking...

I know you don't want to leave me yet.
He's going to take you soon,
let's think about something different...
hey, look... now there's the moon

No Love, He never actually promised that.
You're right... this isn't fair,
no total happiness, no best of health
No twenty-five years!

We have to share what we've taken...
each day and each joy,
and the love we know to us He has given
will remain in my heart.

Close your eyes Love, and rest.
it's time for me to head back out to the island
If you wake and have strength to talk... call me.

I miss you, I love you.
