This is an introduction to my recently published book of poetry, JOURNEY FROM DARKNESS. |
JOURNEY FROM DARKNESS is a roller-coaster ride of emotions, from the depth of insanity to the heights of recovery. The book, an autobiographical account of my recovery from the effects of fourteen years of father-daughter incest, is divided into three sections: "Midnight of the Soul," containing poems of extreme distress and darkness, including my self mutilation; "Journey from Darkness," which covers various aspects of the healing process and the first glimpses of an end to the mental/emotional suffering of the abuse survivor; and "Sunrise at Last," where the poems take on a message of hope and inspiration I've found that this book has a near-universal appeal to anyone on a journey of recovery from abuse or addiction. Many who have read these poems find that they identify -- "That's ME you're writing about!" Will you have the same reaction? I will try to change the poems in my portfolio fairly regularly, so that you can get a taste of the book, which is available from amazon.com or bn.com. Writing these poems, and assembling them into a book has been an important part of my recovery process. I have the hope that by sharing my experience, I will be able to help others on their own journeys. I WEEP I weep for the tears unshed, for dreams undreamt and lives helf-led. I weep for the fears unspoken, for trust betrayed and promises broken. I weep for the burden of shame assumed by those who were not to blame. I weep for the terrible cost; for young lives twisted, and innocence lost. I weep for the unvoiced screams, for the silent tears and the awful dreams. I weep for the unbounded fright of children abused and their cries in the night. My prayer for you is that you have never been one of the many sexually abused children -- and that if you have, you will find healing in my book. Love and light, Candace |
