the heart knows no boundries - and it lives forever - and never gives up hope
The Vow

Once, in long ago
Near the beginning of time
We made a vow in front of a stone in a circle wild
Sacred to our people…
Lost…now..in the mists of time.
My vow I spoke aloud
As I looked into your eyes…
As you did yours to me…
That the one I loved would always live
Within the heart of me.
Through the ages
Through Eons of time
Through birth and death
And time reborn unto Us…..
You and me.

This vow I made….without reservation or regret,
That the one I loved would always live
Within the heart of me.
Understanding all the while,
Because knowledge came easily then…
That you might be first and I
The last to live or die
As the gods decreed.....
And in another age…another time
Our roles reversed,
Yet we are blessed…
Because we are destined always to meet
And know one another
Heart to heart
Life to life
Through our eyes,
Our touch,
Our thought…

We were destined thus
Not only by our choice,
But, by ancestors who struck a bargain
With the Gods who decreed it so….
Once...
In long ago…

In the beginning, the love we shared
Was firm and strong and knew no bounds….
The children we made together, in love
Grew strong and prospered……
And then, darkness came..
And sickness stuck
Not just you and I were touched
But all our people
One by one
Fell to this curse….
From above?
Or from below… we could not tell.
We only knew the loss was great
By the Church bells as they rang out
The death knell…

I watched you waste away…
Brought to your knees
By something you could not conquer…
The first and only thing you could not overcome!
Nursed your body,
Prayed for your soul
Wanting only to trade my place for yours…
And would have willingly done so
Had it been allowed..
And cursed them all
The gods above
For taking you away from me my love!
But, that was yesterday…
Once..
In long ago..

Today, I come in hopeful tred….
Thinking I saw you
Heard your call…
My heart to yours
Through the ages ….beating still…
Is it you, my love?
Or do I only wish it so…

No matter....
You and I
Shall tarry here, yet awhile,
Enjoying one another’s smile…
And if my love you truly be..
The gods will surely give us time...
To see our hearts
At last entwine…
As they did in yesterday…
Once…..
In long ago.
