A poem dedicated to my loving father. Passed away: December 26, 2001
Daddy,
You would’ve been proud
If you saw me now
If you saw me grow up to the scholar I am currently
You would’ve been proud
If you saw me reach my dreams
If I came out to be the person you always wish I’d be
You would’ve been proud
When my family turned the memories of you to happiness
And shush those who resented us
You would’ve been proud
To witness your dream
Me turning eighteen, my sister sixteen
You would’ve been proud
To see mom so strong
Hold up a stiff foundation all her life long
You would’ve been proud
When my brother’s face was no longer forlorn
All the anguish and tears became his building rock and future of success

Tell me why
You have to be gone
Why you can’t come back to life
And be where you belong?
The deeper I dig in my soul
The harder it is
The more I dream about you
The pressure becomes greater
Tell me why
Your image is now embedded on paper
And you can’t stand right here in front of me?
I often wonder how’d it be like
If you were still here in my life
You’re in my heart all the time
Your nobleness stays alive
So tell me why
Did you have to say goodbye?
Why must the good leave?
And the bad never die?
I’m still your daughter
You’re still my friend
And you will always stay here
For as long as I live

Daddy,
You would’ve been proud
Seeing me walk down the aisle, cap and gown
You would’ve been proud
To see us continue our pride
To never let you die
In our prayers, heart and mind
Because you were the greatest father of all
Because your love for us was always strong
And in my mind, you’re still sitting here
I’m wrapped up in your arms
And you would be proud
When I finally get my wings
Fly up to heaven
No tears to dry
No painful memories
And I can hold you again
Stay there forever
When you can finally smile and say
“I never took my eyes off of you and I’m proud of you all.”
