Everyone needs a smoke

The restlessness upon him

he paces

always looking

always watching

always waiting

she comes inside

and with a smack, he's down

for nothing

all the nervousness for nothing

all the worry for nothing

----he needs a smoke

(for the thinness of it--

he twirls it between his fingertips

and places it gently to his lips....

the way he would a woman's lips or arms or hips)

and his breathing might be bad

but at least he's thin

and satisfied
