A BANANA IN MY BRAIN

It's not that I'm stupid,
nor that I'm really dumb;
I'm not an imbecile
and I'm not mentally numb.
I'm not at all inadequate
nor lacking and inane . . .
It's just that, well, you see,
I have a banana in my brain.

My mind is not especially dull,
I'm not indeed a dope.
If I behave less than I should
please don't you give up hope.
I'm not a liege dumbbell
and I'm not really insane,
it's just that I was born
with this banana in my brain.

I know I come across the fool
I know that I seem dense.
If you could open up my skull
you'd see it's full of dents.
I know I seem a pinhead
and that I've slipped a chain,
but there's something you should know:
I have a banana in my brain.

If you think that I'm a dullard
and an idiotic dunce,
a dimwit and a dodo
and a numskull all at once,
don't conclude that I'm a moron.
From judging please refrain.
It's just that I can't understand
with this banana in my brain.

So before you laugh and point at me
and turn to roll your eyes,
or huddle with your buddies
while you mock and exchange lies,
remember I'm no simpleton,
but come share in the pain.
Perhaps you'll help me carry
this banana in my brain.
