So...have you? Seen it? Maybe it exists...or maybe it doesn´t...
John fell to the ground...
"Quick, grab the money and let´s get the fuck out of here" said the man...the mugger...the thief...

"Please...don´t..." said John in a whisper, asking for help. But they didn´t help him...they didn´t care...the only thing that was important for them was the money...
John was laying there, in the street.
It was dark...so dark...yet, John had his eyes wide open...

Then...he saw it. A dark tunel, with a light at the end.
The light...he had to reach it...he had to move on.
Suddenly...the light disappeared.

"He´s waking" said a voice.

John woke up. He was in bed...in a hospital.
There were four doctors looking at him. They were looking at him, smiling.
He couldn´t move his arm...it was broken.
He had the taste of blood in his mouth.

"What..what happened?" asked John, in a whisper: his mouth was hurting...and he noticed one of his teeth were missing.

"You don´t remember?" asked one of the doctors.

"No. I don´t remember anything...except for...I saw a light...a dark tunel, with a light on the end...it was beautiful..."

"Well...it was probably due to the pain you were feeling. You brain was playing tricks on your mind. When the brain is experiencing too much pain...that happens. You were robbed by two teenagers. The police are looking for them, right now. They shot you in the chest. Looks like you gave them one hell of a fight. A woman that was passing by saw your body and called an ambulance. You´ve been unconscious for...hmm...four...five hours. It was a quick operation. You are a very lucky person...you should be dead. We don´t know exactly how you survived..it was a miracle, perhaps" said the doctor, smiling at John.

"Please, Harry" said another doctor "it was no miracle. We just did our job, that´s all. And he...well, he´s a lucky man. Calling it a miracle is..."

"I get the point, Ronald. But still...you have to admit it...he should be dead by now. The bullet was merely and inch away from his heart" said Harry. His smile had vanished.

"So...and now what?" asked John.

"Now...well, your sister is on her way here. She almost cried when we called her. She lives five hours away from here, so... You´ll have to stay here for s couple of days, just for precaution" said Harry "Get some rest...i think you need it"

The doctors left John´s room.

He saw it...he knew it.
It couldn´t heve been his brain..it just...it seemed so real...
So...pure....
John looked around. There was no one else in his room.
There was a bed, placed near his, but there was no one there.

He saw it...the light...he saw death itself.
He wondered...what would have happened, if he had reached the light...would he be alive? Would he be in that bed, in that room?

John feel asleep very quickly...after all, it had been a very strange and sad night.

He dreamed about it. About the light, and the dark tunnel...beautiful dreams. He was running towards the light. He felt so..free, so...happy.
A happiness he had never experienced in his entire life.

John never had an easy life. His parents died when he was ten, and he had to take care of his sister. They went to live with their aunt.
She died when John was 18 and his sister Alice was 14.

John woke up, suddenly. There was someone hugging him, crying...

"John...Oh, my God" Alice sobbed.

"Alice...Alice...Please...I´m not dead!" said John. He could speak normally now.

"But...they punched you...and...kicked you...I SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE!" cried Alice.

"No. I shouldn´t have been there. It´s something completely different.
Don´t worry, next time, i´ll take the bus" said John, with a smile.

Alice laughed.

"I´m so glad you´re ok..." she said. She wasn´t crying anymore.

"Alice...i saw it!" said John, looking into Alice´s eyes.

"You saw what?" she asked, puzzled.

"The tunnel! And the light! I...I saw death, Alice! It was...beautiful..." said John.

"No, John. It was your brain, remember? It wasn´t real."

"YES IT WAS! I SAW IT!" yelled John.

"John...listen to me...it wasn´t real, ok? It was your brain...your mind...ok?" said Alice, looking into John´s eyes.

"No...i saw it...i remember..." said John.

"John...just get some sleep, ok? You´re tired...and...well.
It was an ilusion, John" said Alice, holding John´s hand.

"Have you seen it, Alice? The tunnel, and the light? You haven´t...so, how can you possibly know..."

"How can i see something that doesn´t exist?" said Alice "You know, John. You know i don´t believe in God...You know that i lost my faith on that day...when our parents died...If there was a God, John. If there was someone, or something watching over us...our parents would be alive.
They would be here." said Alice, with a tear running down her face.

"But...Alice..." muttered John.

"There is nothing beyond this. We are reduced to this. Our life is this, John.
This crap. This shit. This...hell...
Now, go to sleep..." said Alice.

She left the room with a smile. A smile with tears...

John was alone.
It was night, and it was still raining...

Then, he saw it. The seringue with the liquid that was entering his veins.
He could pull it out...it was easy....

Only for a minute...just to see the light again...
He could die...but he would see it again, and that´s what matters, isn´t it?
When he had seen it, he could just put the seringue back...
It was easy...There is no line between life and death...Death is just in front of us...and if we dare to give a step ahead...we meet it.

Alice was almost asleep. Her husband was still working.
The phone rang...
"Hello?"
"Is this Mrs. Alice Potter?" asked a female voice on the other side.
"Yes" answered Alice.
"This is from the hospital. I´m sorry tell you this but...your brother died...One hour ago...he...killed himself...He took out the seringue, and..."

Alice hang up.
No...it couldn´t be...it wasn´t fair...
Alice knew why he had done this. He wanted to see it again...
Alice was crying...
"But, if he died to see it. If he believed it so much, reaching the point where he wanted to kill himself...maybe it exists...maybe...there is something beyond this" thought Alice.
And that simple thought gave her strength...and hope.
And faith...
