Life style choices contribute greatly in the formation of kidney stones
A lady e-mailed me the other day with the question, "My husband is passing his second kidney stone. What can he do to ease the pain,
and is there anything he can do to keep them from
forming?" He's 43 years old and in pretty good health." My hubby said, "don't ask Cliff, he'll make me cut out the iced tea and sodas."

Well, Bubba, you are right. Kidney stones indicate acid intoxification. Caused usually by an overindulgence of sweets, starches, and animal
proteins.

To ease the passage of the stone, an infusion of the herb Uva-ursi taken with marshmallow root is said to help the passage.

Preparation--An infusion of one half cup doses as needed can be taken up to 3 cups daily. These herbs can be found at your local health food store and are on the GRAS list (generally recognized as safe}. You make an infusion as you
would a cup of tea, Measure herbs and add boiling
water, and steep for ten minutes.

She also asked about taking cranberry juice for it. Although urinary tract infection could be a contributing factor in kidney stones, diuretics such as celery seed and corn silk would be better suited on a regular basis. A decoction once or twice a day of these herbs may keep the acid flushed.

My advice to Bubba, drink plenty of fluids, water or unsweetened tea.

Consume lowfat dairy products and cut back on sodium intake.

Eat foods rich in potassasium. Green leafy vegetables and get plenty of walking exercise!!

Certain medications, especially those with ant-acids can also contribute to the formation of stones.

Hippocrates, the Father of modern medicine formulated the maxim, "thy food shall be thy medicine."
