insight on the world's strangest possibilities
The sky was paisley today
And everyone was alarmed
Altering from the beautiful blue and white meshed together
Instead a multicolored wash hung above their heads
People got frantic
Some said the world was coming to an end
Others claimed it was the second coming

Everything on the ground looked perfect, inconsequential
The grass was still green, the streets still paved with cement
Even the trees stood regal and their leaves lush and full of life
Contrasted with the mush up above
The people that lined the streets with their hats and overcoats looked the same

Color can’t harm anyone
It can’t kill or maim
But they were still worrying
That this was a sign
A sign that the devil existed
Or that global warming had finally taken its toll
That the earth would stop spinning on its axis
That we had depleted natural resources

They waited and waited
For a sonic boom
For the streets to burn
For the messiah to come

But nothing happened
The next day came
And the sky was pristine, blue
The bluest it had ever been
Of course there was relief and in some cases disappointment

All that was left of that odd day was a headline
“For the first time in history a paisley sky”
