I watch, and am as a sparrow alone upon the house top... -Psalms 102:7
At the Roads’ Crossing

Here I stand at the roads’ crossing,
Where time alone stands still a friend,
The wind is all I lean upon,
And I stand forlorn,
As autumn leaves fall.

North, East, and West and South all fled,
Some walked away some ran away,
Some faded on horizons past,
For none I could reach,
For none I could save.

And all have left me here alone,
They packed their burdens saying last,
“You can’t for me carry my load,
You can’t for me pay,
The debts I have owed.”

“I do not try to bear your load,
But hand in hand to roam this road,”
I grasped their hands now cold as stone,
And faced their eyes void,
“I must be alone.”

And so I smiled they took their leave,
I said “Goodbye!” my hand held high,
In autumn breeze and memories,
“We’ll meet again in,
A season dear friend.”

Still I stand at the roads’ crossing,
Still is time my company here,
Still the wind holds me in its arms,
And still memories,
And red-gold leaves…
Fall
