Just the Beginning

When we decided to make our presents,
I didn't have the heart to say I don't create.
Then I realized that I created with my words everyday.

So I would write a poem about our friendship.
Sometimes I forget that we
have known each other for such a short time.

So quickly we have become friends.
Laughed together, and gotten past breakups and
that acute homesickness that is always there.

Lived through only the beginning of early morning classes
and staying up all night writing that paper we put off.
Not even thinking about what we brought into our lives
when all of us became friends.

All I can hope is that we will continue to be there,
for each other and with everybody else.
Working through college and making it a better place.
