Writing communities I've found on the Internet
Here are some additional web sites I've run across for writers to post their writing and read that of others.

Some are interactive communities, others provide space for you to create different styles of portfolios online. Please visit them at your leisure, look for my contribution in the name of Patrice Lauren, and consider expanding your own database of writing sites.

Writing.Com is my number one home, but I visit as many other sites as possible . . . to spread my different styles of writing: poetry, short stories, op-ed articles, and essays, as well as a few reviews of books and other kinds of entertainment.

(You may need to copy and paste addresses into your web browser for access.)

www.Authorsden.com

An on-line writng community that helps you organize your portfolio for easy viewing as well promotion of special personal accomplishments. Similar to writing.com in its intent. Different way to post images, which is very nice. Also blogging and reviewers. Forums and chat available.

www.poetrypoem.com

Describes itself as a self-publishing house of online poetry. Many options for the way you want to present each particular poem, and offers credentials for number of poems read. A friendly and diverse community; blogging.

Caution: The following sites dapple in what is know as vanity publishing. These sites serve a purpose, other than draining your pocketbook--so beware.

www.poetry.com Offer many poetry contests, where almost everyone is a winner. Winners pay to be published by this company and their many, many subsideries.

www.famouspoets.com Many contests, and you will pay to publish your work. Annual convention presents a bust of Shakespeare, anming recepiant "Famous Poet of the Year."

Voicesnet.com Present your poem and agree to be included in their antholgy, when you pay.

These places also offer annual or semi-annual get together conventions for entertainment and sharing accomplishments of creativity more than for publishing. Great place to meet and party with the like minded, but not tops on the path to the money making publication outcome many writers hope for.

Great newsletter!

Please send me an e-mail with other writing sites with which you have had a positive experience. I'd like to know about the bad ones too.

Magazines that I wouldn't live without include "Writers' Digest," "the Writer," and "Byline Magazine." I also read "Tin House Magazine" and "Poets and Writers."

Networking is the thing! Write on!

I've just added a new other newletters to my reading subscriptions and will get back with more info on them soon.
