Laura would have wanted it that way.
This memorial was written and then sent to me by my daughter in-law’s niece, Dawn May. Her mother passed away suddenly over two years ago. I asked Dawn’s permission to post her words in my port. Actually, I wanted Dawn to join our community of writers, but she preferred that this entry be posted in my portfolio.

Her mother’s death touched us all, and I wanted to do something in remembrance. My daughter in-law’s sister was a warm-hearted woman, full of life and such a joy to be with. Laura took it upon herself to call me mom, too, and in that I was pleased. I had grown to love her like a daughter, too. Here’s what Dawn wrote:

*Heart*

IN MEMORY OF MY MOTHER, WHOM I LOVE AND MISS WITH EVERY BEAT OF MY HEART, MAY SHE LIVE ON FOREVER IN OUR MEMORIES.

CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF:
LAURA THERESA WESCH (MAY, BRANDT)
MARCH 1, 1954 - AUGUST 9, 2001

TO THOSE I LOVE AND TO THOSE WHO LOVE ME.

WHEN I AM GONE, RELEASE ME, LET ME GO.

I HAVE SO MANY THINGS TO SEE AND DO.

YOU MUSTN'T TIE YOURSELF TO ME WITH TEARS.

BE HAPPY THAT I HAD THESE FORTY-SEVEN YEARS.

I GAVE YOU MY LOVE.

YOU CAN ONLY GUESS HOW MUCH YOU GAVE ME IN HAPPINESS.

I THANK YOU FOR THE LOVE YOU HAVE SHOWN,

BUT NOW IT'S TIME I TRAVELED ON ALONE.

SO GRIEVE A WHILE FOR ME, IF YOU MUST.

THEN LET YOUR GRIEF BE COMFORTED BY TRUST.

IT'S ONLY FOR A WHILE THAT WE MUST PART.

SO BLESS THE MEMORIES WITHIN YOUR HEART.

I WON'T BE FAR AWAY FOR LIFE GOES ON.

SO IF YOU NEED ME CALL, AND I WILL COME.

THOUGH YOU CAN'T SEE OR TOUCH ME,

I'LL BE NEAR AND IF YOU LISTEN WITH YOUR HEART,

YOU'LL HEAR ALL OF MY LOVE AROUND YOU SOFT AND CLEAR.

AND THEN, WHEN YOU MUST COME THIS WAY ALONE,

I'LL GREET YOU WITH A SMILE AND SAY, "WELCOME HOME."
