Lucy, Sweet Lucy

Lucy has a mean streak.
She hides behind a mask.
Sweet and kind, one week,
the next, she's such a task.

She'll hug and kiss her mother,
but her mommy doesn't know
she tries to kill her brother
with his little satin pillow.

Lucy loves to skip and jump
just like the other girls.
She also likes to pout and stomp,
and slice her flowing curls.

Lucy bats her eyelashes,
and smiles to get her way.
If not, she duly thrashes
until her mother has her say.

Sent to bed without desert,
she lies awake and fumes.
Thoughts of how to maim and hurt,
her mind swiftly consumes.

Mother comes to say goodnight,
but Lucy will not chat.
Clicking off the bedroom light,
her mother calls her "Brat!"

Alone again, Lucy giggles
at her mother's words.
Soon, she'll stop the baby's wiggles,
and poison mommy's birds.
