Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde? Nonconsensual scene. (NC)
RAPE WARNING

CODE: D (set in the D Is For Damien storyline)

TAKES PLACE DURING (specific story): NA

PAIRING: Sheriff Wayne Rhoades/Nora Rhoades (M/F)

EXPLANATION: Please see "After The Storm" for some background information on this. This here is Scene 1, which was excluded from that item as it is not considered erotic, consisting of nonconsensual sexual relations. What's going on here is that while Nora IS consenting, she's not willing, and doesn't enjoy what's going on...which is one of her husband's "moods." Rhoades is bisexual, but not in the same way that most bisexuals are--his preferences actually CHANGE, from preferring men one day to preferring women (Nora) the next, and when he prefers men he tends to get sadistic. It's almost a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde thing; can't quite explain it as I haven't figured it out yet, myself. Anyway, this is NOT the first time that Nora has been subjected to this side of her husband, but it's probably the last...what happens at the end finally convinces him to stop treating her this way, though of course the urges continue to come. What happens at times like those are scenes like "Kind Of Rough" (a consensual scene) and "The Bribe" (a nonconsensual scene--see its intro for more information). After writing "The Bribe," the very first scene with Rhoades in it, I truly despised him as a character...then I wrote this scene, and he became just slightly more human, if still very flawed. The consensual scenes with his wife, and lastly the scene with James, followed, and I think I finally understand him more. He's not a bad person, but he really has some impulse control problems. I think what he does to Nora in this scene was what he needed to finally snap out of his brutal mindset. (I don't believe I clarified it in "After The Storm"...but learning to control these M/M urges did not make him a faithful husband. He never sees other women, but he does occasionally see other men. Nora has learned to live with this under the agreement that he simply keep himself, and thus her, safe. Not the most romantic marriage, but whatever works, I suppose...)

DISCLAIMERS: If you feel Rhoades is as scuzzy as I did after writing this and "The Bribe," please see his other scenes with Nora (and James) for more enlightenment on his character. He is sometimes a sleazeball, yes, but not a TOTAL sleazeball. I believe that title goes to Alec Bodine...

Jekyll & Hyde

She stepped up behind him and started to massage his shoulders. "C'mon," she coaxed with a fake pout. "All that hard work can't have you that tired." When he turned to look at her she gave him her best coy smile. "I can always make it feel better."

He stared at her for a moment before they kissed. After another moment his hand touched her face, and she knew she had him. They moved toward the bed, still kissing, and he lowered her down onto it, already removing her clothes. A couple of times she giggled and helped him along. When they were naked he pressed himself down over her, his kiss insistent. She caressed him all over, especially his back, as she knew he liked that. After several moments, however, he broke away, and she stared up into his eyes. They'd grown hard, not loving as they usually were when they did this; it was only then that her heart started to sink. It looked as if she did have him, only not in the way that she'd planned.

"Behind," he said in a low voice, almost scowling.

Nora continued staring at him helplessly. She couldn't understand these cycles he went through. One night he would be so loving, so tender, murmuring soft words in her ear as he caressed her; the next he would be cold and hard, insisting that she turn her back to him. She couldn't understand it. She received absolutely no pleasure from it being done this way; in fact it sickened her, making her feel dirty with how brutal it was, the way that he simply used her, how he would let out those lustful groans as he moved. He never acted that way during his other phases. In fact he never let out any sounds then, except to whisper to her how beautiful she was, how much he loved her; but when he said that one word she knew there was nothing in it for her this time.

She resignedly turned over before he could grow too angry--she didn't want to experience his temper while he was in this mood--propping herself up with her knees. Almost immediately he grabbed her by the hips so hard that it made her wince. She'd learned also not to cry out when he was like this; he didn't seem to appreciate that, as the first time that it had happened he'd snarled down at her, squeezing her around the neck so tightly that she'd thought she wouldn't be able to breathe. That was one reason why she didn't want to mess with him. It was too difficult to believe that this was the same person as the one who would cradle her close, touching her face as he whispered in her ear; so she had to tell herself it was just a phase. That was the only way she could explain it.

She could hear him panting, and knew also from experience how greatly aroused he was. It always happened faster this way. She didn't know why. She didn't want to know why. He roughly separated her legs, not even allowing her to prepare herself before he rammed himself deep inside. Nora gasped in pain and surprise, and then wished that she hadn't. Evidently that had been bad enough; Rhoades's fingers wrapped around her neck and squeezed. She started choking as she heard him growling down at her; out of the corner of her eye she could see him, his face contorted with rage. He looked like some wild animal. She shut her eyes tight, begging silently not to pass out; she was almost sure he would kill her if she did so. She could feel tears squeeze out from under her eyelids; her head was starting to pound from the pressure. And then, as quickly as it had happened, she could breathe again. She nearly choked on the air that suddenly poured into her lungs as her husband let go. When she blinked up at him through a veil of tears he scowled again.

"Not a sound," he snarled, and, gripping her hips, started moving. Nora swallowed painfully, fighting down a cough. Rhoades didn't move quickly, slamming into her; yet he did thrust hard. He was much bigger than a lot of people, Nora included; this was never a problem when he was in his "other" phase, as he was always tender and gentle toward her then. However, in that phase he seemed to know that he could hurt her; in this one he didn't seem to care. It was only a matter of how deep he could force himself, and that was painful. Nora bit down her cries--she didn't want his hands around her throat again when this was bad enough--and stayed still and passive. That was the only thing she could do to avoid upsetting him.

Rhoades continued pushing into her from behind, totally oblivious to anything except how he felt inside her. It was good that he didn't have to fight or force her to do this; yet it never felt right. It was true, when he groaned he was feeling great pleasure with her tightness, or more like with how deep he could force himself inside that tightness; yet he knew that she wasn't what he wanted right now. She was a woman, and there was always going to be a difference. No matter how hard he tried to imagine otherwise. He didn't want her crying out, reminding him of what she was; but he knew that nothing besides the real thing would help. She could satisfy him, when he was in the mood for her; however, he wasn't in the mood for her now, and that was the problem. There was no way he could or would bother explaining it to her. She wouldn't understand anyway.

Nora heard his deep groaning, the lust thick in his breathing, his pleasure as he thrust painfully, brutally inside; she merely clenched her teeth, tears streaming from her eyes. Her husband pushed hard against her, like some rutting animal; she had to bite back a sob as it only grew worse, each thrust now accompanied by a deep, throaty grunt. She silently wept as he ground inside, his animal sounds growing louder. Her mind kept repeating the same phrase: I can't understand. I can't understand. I can't--

Rhoades let out a guttural growl, his fingers sinking into her skin, thrusting upward, a hard, sustained push. Nora bit her lip to avoid crying out. I can't understand--why does he hurt me, why if he loves me does he hurt me like this--

Rhoades started pushing inside her harder, speeding up slightly. The urge deep inside him was growing steadily stronger. He knew that it hurt her but he didn't care. He had to satisfy himself, and there was no way she could do it for him. She wasn't right for what he needed so desperately. And this only made him angrier with her that she wasn't. Snarling again, he bent over her, forcing his throbbing hardness deep inside. It ached, almost painfully; he couldn't reach deep enough. Nora was too small. He groaned loudly, moving faster than he usually did, trying to push further, deeper, harder; through the red haze growing in his head he dimly heard Nora sob out loud, terrified and in pain; he ignored it as it didn't matter to him now, he was too far gone; he rammed into her repeatedly, rocking, pushing her forward with each savage thrust; he felt as if he were slightly wet but ignored that also; he had to fill her, had to feel her around him completely, had to get deeper--

"Nnhh-unnghh!" he just about screamed at the air as he rammed harshly inside, releasing, shuddering in mixed pleasure and relief as his fluid gushed forth. He dropped his head, chest heaving, trying to catch his breath. Though he'd received gratification, he'd climaxed, it still hadn't been the same; he knew he could only receive the intense pleasure he so wanted with someone besides Nora. Someone less female. He pulled himself out and sat down heavily, still attempting to slow his breathing, now totally ignoring his wife.

Nora sat up as well, shaking, curling up and drawing the covers over herself as she lay down again. She knew how this part of the act went too. Whenever he was in this mood he never seemed satisfied once it was over; he always turned away from her as if disgusted or disappointed, refusing to speak for the rest of the night. She didn't know why he did this either, since he so obviously seemed to enjoy himself enough while they were doing it. Else why would he let out such savage sounds? She honestly thought that he was beginning to prefer it this way. She didn't know if she could handle it.

Rhoades stayed where he was, head hanging, until he finally managed to slow his breathing. He cast a quick glance at Nora--it looked as if she'd dozed off already. Just as well. He didn't feel like talking to her anyway. He never did after this. He started to stand up, only to notice that he was bleeding. With a start he sat down again, his eyes widening. He gingerly touched the blood and then realized that it wasn't his. He turned to look at his wife again.

"Nora?" She lifted her head slightly, a little surprised to hear him talking to her. She felt groggy and sick and only blinked when he stood up, moving toward her. Her head had grown foggy, but she was still able to connect several disjointed thoughts.

He wants seconds. I guess maybe he is starting to like it. Good for him. Good for me.

"What?" she mumbled.

"Sit up." When she didn't he took her by the shoulder and forced her to sit up. She was holding the sheets to herself feebly but he pulled them away and looked her over. When he looked down he noticed that there was blood on the bed.

"Shit," he muttered.

She could have sworn that she'd seen guilt flicker across his face. "What?" she asked again, her head still foggy.

"Get up." He took her under the arm and helped her to her feet. She stumbled into him and he had to catch her before she fell. He didn't understand why she suddenly seemed so sick. She'd been fine. Before.

God, I hurt her. Shit, I really hurt her!

Now Nora was sure that it was guilt she saw on his face. He didn't make any attempt to hide it this time. "Come on," he said, helping her across the room. "Try to get dressed."

"Why?" She was so numbed that she didn't notice the pain anymore. She had to lean against the wall to steady herself while he got her clothes for her and then went for his own. She noticed the blood on him now. "Wayne? You okay? You've got blood all over you."

"I'm taking you to the hospital," he muttered, helping her into her clothes when it was obvious that she wasn't going to do it herself. "Stop asking questions, all right?"

"The kids--"

"The kids'll be fine. I'll tell Sean to keep an eye on Krystall. Would you just get dressed?" he snapped. When she blinked at him in stupid surprise he sighed, looking away and running a hand through his hair.

"Look, just get dressed. I'll tell the kids where we're going, okay? But you've got to get your clothes on first."

When he spoke this time his voice had softened, losing that hard tone that it had had earlier. Nora blinked again. He never went through both phases in the same night. He must feel guilty. Still not sure why--or what the cause of that blood was, or why they were going to the hospital--she reached down to put on her shoes as he hurriedly dressed and left the room.

This item is not looking for critique. It was written solely for entertainment's sake. Although a scene from a possibly longer story, it is complete in itself and unless otherwise stated there is not going to be any more of it written. Additional unrelated SCENES may be written, but single scenes themselves are complete as they are. So please do not expect more. If you are interested in reading the series which INSPIRED the scene, just look elsewhere in my portfolio and you should find something. (Use the "story codes" given in the scene headers. For example, "MI" = "Manitou Island" series.)

I am not looking for critique on grammar, spelling, style, sentence structure, flow, or the mechanics of writing. What I AM interested in is commentary on such things as characterization, plot, symbolism, theme, etc.--the deeper aspects of the story. I like to know if a scene is believable, if the characters are interesting, what you thought of how they interacted, if the writing evoked any emotions, things such as that.

Feel free to criticize, but just keep in mind that I'm working on more important projects and shared this just for fun and/or to illustrate character interactions, so I don't plan to revise it any time soon. Comments on the characters, theme, etc. are more than welcome.
