DO UNTO OTHERS

Taking a look at the Golden Rule,
Thinking about what I learned at school;
Trying to make some sense out of life,
Finding I cause some of my own strife!

Do unto others, just try to be kind -
and leave a mark of your love behind.
Do unto them as you would have them do,
have a bit compassion and follow through..

Now I sometimes find a very sharp reply
Comes from my lips like a plaintive cry.
Sometimes I am much too quick to say -
"I can get along without you, anyway!"

When I'm alone I stop and think it over,
Life is not all strawberries and clover!
There are times when things get rough,
And I find myself being a bit too tough!

So just for today, I am going to try
To let those unkind remarks go by!
I'm going to simply smile and say
"I sure hope you have a better day!"

Do unto others is the Golden Rule,
Use it well, it's quite a good tool,
And "getting even" is not a funny joke,
You will wind up emotionally broke!

Time, my friend, is always on your side,
If you stop and let the Golden Rule abide
Within your heart and mind every day;
Just think what you are about to say..

Hurting someone's feelings is cruel;
Tears could fill a large swimming pool!
It is better to leave some things unsaid
And let the old Golden Rule be spread..

To give a few words of love and cheer
To someone that you hold very dear
Is so important to you right at the end.
It doesn't take that much, my friend.

What you sow will come back to you;
Better you stop and think it through!
Take the time to realize all the cost
Of friends you may lose, of love lost!

May your heart be always light and gay,
Find some happiness along your way;
Give of yourself and what you can do
Is to make all your dreams come true!
