My experience on the 1st anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy.
The inspiration for this poem came from my experience at school today. My college, Johnson & Wales University in Charleston, SC, observed a few moments of rememberance this morning. Each class had a teacher come in at 8:35, that teacher passed out a special poem. Here is that poem:
"We Are OneOpen in new Window.
After the poem was read, at 8:46, whistles sounded throughout the building to start the minute of silence.
=============================================================
In one voice we spoke,
As tears fell from our eyes,
Remembering the fallen,
As Americans we cried.

The whistles were sounded,
As one we all stopped,
The silence only broken,
With a small bird's chirp.

Time was restarted,
Each voice gained back strength,
Each body moved with purpose,
And we started as we had begun,
As one.
