[Note: I was 16 years old when I wrote this. It's not very good, I realize this, but it's one of the first pieces I ever wrote and thought it deserved to be logged, at least.]

She ran as fast as she could through the damp ally. She was totally soaked and barefoot, and she wore no coat. Her dress was partially torn and stained from blood and sweat. Her feet ached with the cold of running through puddles of December rain fall. Her breathe passed her lips in quick white puffs of fear and exhaustion. She continued to run, though, constantly checking back over her shoulder. For behind her, out of sight but still close, was a creature, some sort of animal she'd never seen before. It was unearthly. It stood about four feet high, it's coat thick and black, eyes as red as the fires of hell, it's back arched. It ran on all four legs, snarling, with blood dripping from it's pearl white fangs.

This beats has an unending hunger, which sends him into fits of rage, where he kills whatever living thing gets in his way. And she got in his way. He'd been hiding in the basement of an abandoned apartment building, waiting for someone to come by. And she, coming home from a party at her sister's house, had to pass here to get the bus. Now, she ran through allies, down streets, crying and screaming, blood dripping from her legs from the swipes he got in at her. She longed for home, to close the door and let the beast know he's lost. But she ran, growing tired and giving up any bit of hope she had. She could hear him snarling behind her. There was a 7Eleven about a block away, and she figured that if she could just get there, she'd be safe. So she picked up her pace, crying and looking over her shoulder. She was so panicked that she did not even seem to notice that there was not a single living thing, other than the beast, on the streets around her.

She reached her destination and flung herself inside. She crawled down an isle and sat in the middle, sighing with light relief that she was safe, at least for now. She didn't hear a sound from the front of the store, no cashier or other customers.

The bell on the door jingled. Hoping it was someone who had seen the beast and was coming to her aid, she crawled out of the isle and stood. She released at scream at the new beast that stood before her. He was of huge stature and stood erect. His face was angry, no color to his eyes, long black hair falling over his broad shoulders and horns in two perfect curls shot from his skull. He wore a black coat that ended above his hooves. She stared at him, a frightened look staining her facial features. He looked down at her trembling figure and smiled as he took a pull from a filterless cigarette. He spoke.

"You are meant to die tonight, you know." She glanced up at him, speechless. "I have stopped time to explain this to you, as I usually do before I take a new soul to my fiery abode. You, my sweet, have lived a life that only I could appreciate; drugs, alcohol, neighborhood slut. The people you have hurt, tortured, or killed, both mentally and physically, makes me weep with joy. God rejects you for your lack of sorrow. The God you fall to your knees and beg for mercy...has turned his back on you. I, on the other hand, want you for my own. A perfect addition to my home."

She straightened up and looked into his glazed eyes. In a shaking voice she asked, "Why must I die now? I am still young?"

"Because now is when I choose!" he yelled, stomping a hoof into the ground. "The angel of death has extinguished your life light. You see, we know your plans, to kill the one we see promise in, our spawn, if you will. He is the one who will do our will, no matter what. We must remove your worthless being from his path."

Tears welled up in her eyes. She yelled back at him. "Who the fuck are you??"

"I, my love," he began, pulling on the lapels of his coat, "am the god of darkness, evil's father, the one who destroys dreams with a smile and plans to corrupt all of God's creations. Beelzebub, Lucifer, Satan, Evil One, Father of Lies...I have many names. As do you. Fitting names. "

"God," he continued, "is my rightful enemy. He rejected me as well, you know? We have much in common, love, and I know you will be happy in my flames. God can offer you no rest. But to you, I offer what your life has held. The tortures of hell that you will soon endure! ENOUGH! It is time!"

With that, he clapped his hands and the fiery-eyed beast burst through the window toward her. She stood, frozen, waiting for her death. The beast's claws dug into her shoulders and pushed her to the floor. It tore open her tender stomach as she screamed. It pulled her apart in a hungry frenzy as she lived on in screaming agony.

Finally, it tore her throat to shreds, ending her screams. Satan watched, a joyous tear in his eye.

"Beast, I have trained you well," he said, lifting it off the floor before vanishing back into hell.

The girl's soul exited her body and stood in the empty store, not quite sure of what had just happened to her. She turned to see the knarled corpse lying in a pool of blood on the floor. She wanted to weep, but was cut off by hands grabbing at her, sharp hands. She turned fast, only to see slender, winged beasts in front of her. They grabbed her with ease, regardless of her fighting and screaming, and dragged her through the window into the parking lot. She sank quickly with the demons to join Satan in her new dwelling place, to become the Evil One's play thing.

The End
