The Story

I had to write a poem. It was inevitable, the class is about all the kinds of writing, and, of course, poetry is one. I do like the use of some poems, like for songs… is that still poetry? I took the course because I am an avid reader, well, that and also, it’s a requirement at school. I had to take something… Reading a poem on purpose never caught on for me. It’s kind of like how some people love jazz and others love classical music. I understand, but honestly, that’s like using the word “fish” for goldfish, and for whales. There’s a huge disconnect.

Anyway, rummaging through poetry books in the library, hoping for inspiration. I figured if I found one with even the slightest motivation, I could get through this. Then I could go on to the next, which happened to be music! All I needed was a little push, a tiny seed aiming to be something I could turn in for the assignment.

“Hey!” came a, pretending she was whispering, voice. Everyone nearby looked up. Some saying “Shhh!”

I looked at her, raising my eyebrows in that “what’s your problem?” like my father always did.

“Hobert’s class?”

“Yes…”

“Looking for a poem to steal too huh!” she laughed.

“No!” I said, seriously, “I’m going to write my own!”

“Pfffft!” she laughed. “You couldn’t write your way out of a paper bag! You’re Jacky, right? I’m in your class, in the back… My name’s Jade…”

And suddenly I’d used all three prompts! And that’s also when I woke up! I would have written more, but the dog wanted to go out! This “Daily Story” business always makes my day, though, it’s usually easier on the days when I’m not running a fever… See ya tomorrow!
