Fran wanted to immigrate to America. Her custodial guardian thought it was a bad idea.
"But brother, my trunks have already been sent to the docks. You must let me go!" Fran shouted.

Her older brother blocked the stair well; he shepherded his sister back to her room upstairs. "I'll have no more nonsense," he said. "Father made me your guardian and I forbid you from running off to join the Mormons." He shut the door and locked it. As man of the family, he would not allow his sister to sully the name of Mortison.

Fran wept for a moment if she didn't leave soon she'd never get to Zion. But how would she get there? Suddenly, divine intervention stuck!

She ripped the springs from her mattress. Tied a couple securely to a board and left the excess fabric for handholds and opened the window.

Fran placed her contraption on the ledge, stood steadily on her invention and jumped! She landed on the cobblestones and bounced up to a neighboring rooftop. Luckily the petticoats under her skirt softened the landing.

In no time Fran was up running and leaping from roof to roof. Finally she landed on the ship that would take her from England to America. There she would join the rest of the Saints already in Exodus to Zion!

Thanks to her ingenuity she made it to the Salt Lake Valley in record time. Fran bounded on springs all the way across the Great Plains and into the welcoming arms of the saints!
