Marmie finds a home. 300 words
Tisket Tasket

Marmie, a curious orangekitten, was looking for adventure. Her wide green eyes soon spotted something. She began to chase it wherever it went. She was having a great time when the fly disappeared.

Marmie, short for Marmalade, sat down in her tracks when that happened. She was so embarrassed that she’d lost the bug, she began to wash herself nervously. After she’d finished, she looked around for more fun.

She didn’t know where she was. Being lost was not a new experience for the kitten, nevertheless, she didn’t like it whenever it happened. She began to mewl plaintively, in spite of the fact that her being lost was her own fault.

Marmie continued to call for help, getting louder and louder. Finally, she was so exhausted, she curled up right where she was and fell fast asleep. Sometime later, a gentle rocking motion woke her up. Overtaken by curiosity, she popped her head up through the lid of what proved to be a basket.

“Good morning, little one! Did you sleep well?” said a soft, elderly voice. Marmie looked up at the woman carrying the basket.

“I’ve been wanting a cat. I hope you chase mice. If not, I’m sure you’ll learn. Now, what shall I name you?”

Marmie sat up very tall and said her name loudly.

“Marmie, Marmalade, perfect!” the woman said scritching that special spot between the kitten’s eyes. Of course, she began purring, which made the woman laugh merrily.

“I can see you and I will be perfect for each other,” the woman said.

“Here we are, home sweet home,” the woman said as she entered a small cottage and set the basket down. The sound of buzzing prompted the kitten to leap out of the basket and begin to chase the sound.
