Seth and Jim meet a kind man. 300 words |
It's Who You Know “What’s the matter boys?” asked a man who was standing beside Seth and Jim on the outside of the frost fence topped with barbed wire. “We aren’t allowed in there.” “Really?” asked the man in construction clothes, hard hat and steel toed boots. “Some guy in a uniform kicks us out whenever he catches us. Last time he broke my new skateboard!” “I see. Let me take care of that for you!” The man got on his cellphone and was yelling. When he hung up, he took some cutters out of his toolbelt and snipped the fence, rolling it back so they could get in. “I’ll put a gate in later today.” “Thanks Mr...?” “Sam Dollar, nice to meet you!” the man said as he shook hands. The boys whispered to each other as they entered the lot. Soon they’d built ramps and curved tracks. When they stopped for water and snacks, Seth said: “Do you think it’s really him?” “Who?” “Samson Dollar. The owner of Dollar Stores?” Jim laughed until he was spitting up water. “No way! Why would he care?” “I hear he used to be a professional.” “Him? He’s old and fat and has a limp.” “That’s why he had to quit, he broke his leg in six places and couldn’t balance after that. I read he still loves the sport though.” Jim looked doubtful then his eyes fell on the same man who’d let them in to skate. He was dressed in a suit and wearing a fedora. “So, what do you think, fellas, would this make a good skate park?” They agreed but made some suggestions to make it better. “How would you like to help me design my first ever Dollar Free Skate Park?” They were speechless so they nodded. |
