Alan Groaned

“James! Look at this!” Alan yelled from the back.

James came around, finding Alan holding up a board.

“Did you steal it?” James said, not excited.

“Of course not!”

“Well, where did it come from? Dad wouldn’t leave a board in the backyard.”

“I traded it with Tony.”

“Traded… what did you trade with?”

“One of Mom’s pots with a plant in it.”

“What? Does Mom know?”

“She has tons of plants, she won’t even notice!”

“Oh, what are you planning on doing with this great board.”

“I thought we could make something!”

“Like???”

“A house, a boat maybe, or…”

“With one board? The only thing you can make with one board is… nothing…”

“Come on! Help me here. Look at this great board.”

“Yes, this is a great board, but you can’t make anything out of one board, you need more.”

Fine, I’ll make it myself!” Alan stomped off.

Later, when James got home from his friend’s house. As he walked in Mom said, “James! You should see the beautiful shelf Alan made for my plants!”

Going out, there was the shelf. The board Alan had in the morning, now laying on top of cement blocks that used to be behind the garage.

“It’s so perfect!” said Mom.

James looked; it really came out nice! Alan actually found a way to use the board, and make Mom happy at the same time! Amazing! As he walked over to tell Alan how good it looked, suddenly the situation turned…

“I’d like to put my favorite plant on it,” Mom said, “the Bonsai Lotus Blossom! It’s perfect, and it’s my favorite too!” Mom said, then added “But I can’t seem to remember where I put that pot… Will you guys help me find it?”

And that’s when James heard Alan groan…
