Beginning of my 1000 page fantasy book

Tension from above the entrance snapped in the noticeable silence, the falling boom of the draw bridge as it fell to the ground. The horses thin blue Peytral shaking in the wind as it made its ride into the castle. Kicking his foot out the rider got off his saddle and steps taking lead in through the castle. In the corridor room the light from the window wore a heavy yellow tint stream of light, beaming straight at an angle above the room. A man with a clean white long sleeve linen noticed someone. He looked up at the man. His chin pointed at the stranger walking in, in one moment, looking sharply away, as if the man didn't see him. Now moving through the stoned courtyard he came upon a carriage with dark red trim. Standing next to the carriage was a nice looking merchant. “Hello, I'm from out of town” The traveler said. The merchant heard him and replied “ What are your wishes here Sir, we have fine goods for sale. I'm sure you could use some fresh supplies sir” He smiled as he showed him a hand gesture in front of the cart from which he was selling. “For the taking sir, I'm sure you could use something for your time” the merchant said. The traveler could see the things the merchant offered, something on the cart caught his eye and he remembered a time from his past. His eyes fell out of focus as he leaned into his toes a little more. “ I've got no use” said the traveler. The traveler turns and walks away from the cart, gazing up he sees the blue sky above him through the courtyards top.

Apart from the journey thoughts about his life leading up until that point made him feel uneasy as he was apart of some brutal times living, what he learned from that makes him what he is today.
