Revelation Chapter 14 God's People and the Harvest of the Earth
Lesson 19 Questions

First Day: Read Lesson 18 Notes.

The notes and lecture fortify the truth of the passage for understanding and application to daily life.

1. What thoughts from the lecture brought you comfort or assurance as you think of humanity’s inevitable suffering?

2. How did the notes impact your understanding of the purpose of suffering?

Second Day: Read Revelation 14:1-5.

John saw the Lord and faithful believers.

3. a. What did John see and hear?

The Lamb and the 144,000

14 Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads. 2 And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of rushing waters and like a loud peal of thunder. The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps. 3 And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. 4 These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they remained virgins.

b. What do you learn about the 144,000?

No one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. 4 These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they remained virgins. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among mankind and offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb. 5 No lie was found in their mouths; they are blameless.

4. What does it mean that the followers of the Lamb “were purchased from among mankind”?
(See also Ephesians 1:3-7, 12-14; and 1 Peter 1:18-19.)

Jesus paid for our salvation through His blood, and all who believe in Jesus are sealed by the Holy Spirit. We were chosen before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless. We are adopted by the precious blood of Jesus.

5. a. In what ways do followers of the Lamb distinctly reflect His character in the way they live? (See also 1 Corinthians 6:19-20; Ephesians 5:1-11; Philippians 2:1-16; and 1 John 1:9-10.)

By being pure in word and deed, pursuing no sexual immorality or idolatry. A sexually immoral person sins against their own body, whereas all other sins come from outside. Jesus’s followers must surrender their very bodies to honor God. Be humble and willing to b3 poured out. We are to be a light shining in the darkness and hold fast to the word.

b. What areas of your life are the hardest to surrender to the Lamb so you may mirror His character?

Pride. I want it all to be about me.

Third Day: Read Revelation 14:6-13.

Three angels each delivered a specific message.

6. a. Summarize what each of the three angels proclaimed.

First angel:
Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth—to every nation, tribe, language and people. 7 He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.”

Second angel: Declares Babylon is fallen.

Third angel: 9 A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice: “If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives its mark on their forehead or on their hand, 10 they, too, will drink the wine of God’s fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. They will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb. 11 And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever. There will be no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image, or for anyone who receives the mark of its name.” 12

b. To whom were these messages to be delivered?

The people living on Earth.

7. What is the “eternal gospel” the angel proclaimed? (See also Acts 26:16-18; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4.)

To bear witness to the truth: Jesus was crucified for us, died, and rose from the grave. Turning to Jesus means we are forgiven and a place among those sanctified by Jesus.

8. Read Matthew 28:18-20; 2 Corinthians 4:5-6; and 1 Peter 2:9.

a. If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, what has He told you to do in these passages? What promise
does He connect to this command?

b. To whom has God called you to take this truth, and how are you putting it into practice?

Fourth Day: Reread Revelation 14:6-13.

The rebellious are distinct from those who are faithful to the Lamb.

9a. Read Revelation 13:5-10, 16-17 with 14:9-11. Describe what the mark of the beast means for
someone during life on earth and then for eternity.

b. How does this affect your concern and sense of urgency for those who do not believe in
Jesus Christ?

10. Explain your understanding of verses 12-13.

Fifth Day: Read Revelation 14:14-20.
John saw the reaping of harvests on earth.
11. Whom did John see seated on a white cloud, and what was He called to do? (See also
Revelation 1:13.)

12. a. Whom do the grapes from the earth’s vine represent?

b. What do the following represent?
The sickle (Matthew 13:24-30; 25:32):

The winepress:

13. How does the finality of this passage raise questions, cause concerns, or increase your confidence in God’s perfect justice?

Sixth Day: Review Revelation 14.
Only those saved by Christ will escape God’s wrath.
14. How has this week’s lesson about God’s judgment and His harvests impacted your witness of
the gospel?
