George runs into problems walking the dog on a very cold day. 300 words |
Stay Warm Jullian Quite watched as his partner got dressed up warmly. “Don’t go out there.” George Ross snapped on their dog’s leash and said: “I have to, Robespierre is standing with his legs crossed!” “Okay, but don’t stay out too long. We’re in a polar vortex.” “I know but needs must.” Ten minutes later, George was back. The dog was so stiff on his leash he was up in the air and being carried over George’s shoulder. “Oh, no! Poor Robespierre! We must thaw him out slowly!” He ran to get electric blankets, one for each of them. Hot coffee for George and warmed broth for the dog, soon revived them. “What happened? Jullian asked. “We were doing fine as I kept the walking pace brisk. But we came to a fire hydrant...” “OMG, and Robespierre did what he usually does?” George nodded. “I broke the icicle off carefully when he managed to stick himself to the hydrant. Maybe we can find a vet who does house calls?" Jullian raced to find one that could come fast to check their boy out. He came an hour later and checked Robespierre over carefully. “There’s no harm done, this time. I usually suggest puppy pads for dogs on days like today,” the vet said. “Do you think our beloved doggie will ever use a fire hydrant again?” Jullian asked his partner solemnly. “I wouldn’t be surprised if he gave them up permanently after that ordeal,” George opined petting Robes gently. “Do you think he’ll forgive you?” “If he doesn’t, you’ll have to take him out in the cold weather!” “We’ll just stock up on puppy training pads, I think.” “Speaking of which, I wonder if we should invest in them, they sound like they’d be a good stock for our portfolio!” |
