The wages of greed.
Scattered so carelessly
the seeds of a successful harvest
strewn across the sanctuary floor
spread and intermingled
fruits, grains, vegetables and detritus
the shattered remnants of a summer cornucopia

Wanton waste, wreaking the winter warehouse
wherein might have been respite
from the worst of the hunger
the seasonal deprivations and hardships
vicissitude foisted with frosty uncaring
whilst the wealthy watch disinterested, and disinclined

To any action that may alleviate
the atrocious action that will effect them
last and least, long having levered themselves
free from the common crowd
with wealth, coined continually and contemptuously
creating the very cracks that caused the disastrous division.
