Leaves “Jimmy, are you sure you want to do this job?” Gramp asked. Jimmy was only nine and raking their lawn was a big deal even for a grown-up. They had half an acre of yard, and there were six trees, in a triangle around at least ten different gardens. “I can do it,” Jimmy answered. “I know you can,” Gramp said, “It’s just a lot of work. I won’t be able to help you till I get home, and your dad won’t be home till Wednesday.” “Don’t worry Gramp,” he said, “I have a plan. Mom said she’d help me if I needed anything. It’ll be a piece of cake!” “OK!” Gramp laughed! Jimmy was pretty smart, but he felt better knowing Jane would help if he got tired or stuck. Pulling in later, back from is appointment, he was astounded! All the leaves were gone! He himself had never raked the whole yard in one day, let alone half a day! Walking up to the house he was even more impressed, there wasn’t even one leaf left in the area! Then he walked to the back, all clear, and a huge pile of leaves on the spot behind the garage where he always dumped them. And Jimmy wasn’t even still out, he must have gone in the house. Gramp rushed in to congratulate him. There was Jimmy, watching TV, just like he’d left him. “How did you do that?” Gramp asked. Did you invite all your friends over and make them rake?” “No, silly…” Jimmy said. “I just used the leaf blower!” “Well, great Job!” Gramp said, suddenly feeling a little foolish. Leaf blower huh… he knew it was called that, but it had never occurred to him that it was actually made to blow the leaves…” |
