Retirement is at hand
The months trudge slowly by

The last weeks creep and crawl
Time becomes elastic
Tick-tock--tick---tock----tick-----tock
Can clocks be sarcastic?

Retirement is at hand
The days now gallop past
Panic, panic, panic!
Write up this! Hand on that!
Manic, manic, manic!

Retirement is at hand
The world somehow survived
Lie in bed, stretch and yawn
scratch my bum, check the time
Nine a.m.? Been and gone...
