God, Prayer and People

Recently, I started observing people a a lot. It's fun to observe. And trust me, no one is normal. Everyone is insane in their world. We pretend to be elegant and wise. It's funny. Well, I am not an exception. The common thing I am observing lately is about God and it's prayer. It irritates me most of the time. It's also funny to see them moking themselves.
I think prayer is done to end chaos in our lives, to end restlessness and to find peace. But the crowd is blindly praying to satisfy their own needs. They pray towards God, call them so-called devotees but what's the point of your prayers which only urge for materialistic pleasure? I know it's been carried out for years, people only look at God as an angel or genie. It's fine you ask Him to fulfill your needs but it soon turns into greed. What's the point of spending hours in the temple if it doesn't end your jealousy and desires? I have seen people in my vicinity whose minds are full of desires, greed and jealousy but still, they call themselves great devotees. They spend hours chanting and reading those heavy words, and they follow all the rituals. But is there any use of such prayers that can't make your earthly desires meet the end? Then I feel the path they chose is somewhere going wrong. And after all their practice won't go in vain. That almighty is so merciful. He won't let any of their efforts go in vain. He will still be there for those who chant him for help. He just needs your love. He needs you to love him at the most pure level. But will these humans ever love Him? You can't love someone when you have desires. Are these people using Him? Is this what the so-called 'Bhakti' I wonder...
