Norman was not able to help the girls escape from the second apartment building |
Lilly and I spent a few hours going through the cabinets on the first floor and grabbing anything that could last months for food. Of course, at the top of the list was pasta. Something all of us girls seem to love. The second was canned goods. Food that required very little prep. Mostly heat it, and it is ready. Considering no one, but Lilly could cook, cans are a godsend. Well, clearing out the last apartment on the first floor we heard someone open the outside front door. We quickly hid ourselves, as we listened. We heard the sound of one of the apartment doors close behind the person. We quickly left the last apartment. we were in. Then, we made our way upstairs. Neither of us is ready to meet new people, without Norman to protect us. Other humans, at this point, are possible enemies. They could target us girls for more than just resources. Even I am well aware of that with the body of a ten-year-old. In many human cultures, that is considered to be old enough, even if by eleven standards, I would be closer to eight. We head straight for the last room on the third floor. Then use all three inside locks on the door. Needless to say, we were scared. We talked in hushed tones to make sure our voices did not carry outside the locked door. Eventually, nightfall came and there was no sound of anyone coming. So we went to the bedroom and huddled together that night. With me clutching my sword. Of course, it was sheathed. We talked about everything before we fell asleep. Even romance, something I have no experience in. So I told Lilly about my roommate's experiences. At first, she was disturbed that I would know these stories and events. Until I told her that my roommates were all mid to to late teens. Then she understood that even teenage girls like to brag. For most of them, it is a right of passage. She now realizes why me and my sister are so mature for our ages. It is comparable to children raised in a whore house. Something common in east asian cultures. Well, girls that is not boys. Until those girls are old enough to take customers at around 11 or 12. When we woke up, we made sure our apartment was clear. Then we made our way to the roof to wait for Norman. Of course, we took our weapons with us. Our security was more important than the food. If we were forced to fight, we could defeat most men together. We had to wait for around two hours till he showed up. We could see zombies in the distance shuffling into the shadows to escape the sunlight. We also can see the pile of corpses that Norman left at the bottom of the fire escape. That they stayed dead all night long is a good sign that they do not have to be beheaded. Still, it is best to be sure that they are dead. We are yet to encounter a headless corpse. So beheading them is a sure way to kill them. It also looks like the zombies of this world do not regenerate. Like they do in our highly magical world. Maybe because they can't absorb magic energy like they can in our world. These zombies may require food to regenerate. If so as long as we cut off their arms we need not fear them. Provided we keep their numbers low. They do act like crickets though when there are a lot of them, with their chorus. Hearing them with their groaning can be annoying. We both lit into Norman for taking too long. As we told him about the stranger on the first floor. At the time Norman was standing on the fire escape as we gave him the information. That was when we both heard some groans coming from the pile of bodies. One of them was still alive but may not be able to move. Still, this is a problem because Norman will have to drop on the pile to go get us. Then we would have to get on the pile to return to our home base. Norman's armor protects his neck down to his toes. The same with my sister's armor I am wearing. Lilly on the other hand had no protection. So a bite on her would cause great damage. Norman knowing this jumped from the fire escape from a slightly higher spot than Normal. To clear the bodies, underneath. He then started to drag the bodies one by one to the front of the ally. By doing this he found the still living zombie and ended it quickly before other zombies started to swarm him. It also helped that Norman was building a zombie wall. Well, I guess it would now be a corpse wall. Norman did not bother to search the corpses like he normally did. Likely because we have access to all the apartments in the two buildings. Besides most of these zombies came from across the street, or even farther. When he was done, the wall was four feet high. It was not high enough to block out the sight of us, but it was high enough to prevent a zombie from getting through to us unless they went around to the back of the building. When Norman was done he hurried to the other side of the apartment building we were in. To get to the fire escape. That way we could receive his protection. As soon as he got up the fire escape we raced to him to hug him. We then put on the brakes as we stopped. He had his arms out to receive us, yet we lost interest. He looked at us in confusion. That made it clear that I had to spell it out to him. What have you been doing for the last half hour, Norman? After I said that, he responded with an "Oh, right, that makes sense." He then put on a goofy smile and was about to cast a cleanse spell when we heard a scream. A young woman was running down the road, being chased by zombies. Norman raced to the fire escape. Well, we girls called out to her to come to our building. I ran back into the apartment building to get to the first floor. At this point, I fully forgot about the person or people downstairs. My only concern at the time was rescuing this woman. So I was going to call her into the front door. So that is what I did. When she noticed us, she changed directions. I was waving her inside, and Lilly was calling out to her. By this time, Norman was running past the girl with his stop sign, fully focused on slowing down the zombies. Norman did his job well, he even got the zombies to stop chasing the girl. The problem was they were now focused on him. If not for his exceptional agility he would have been caught and then killed by the crowd of zombies. A normal human would have. For that, I am sure, just one more advantage we Palladium elves have. Norman then runs to the alleyway where the fire escape to the building we are in is. He does not use it. Instead, he runs behind the building to the fire escape to where we live. Then uses that fire escape to get away from the zombies. When Lilly sees him do that she starts to scream at him for abandoning them again. Norman just puts his hands up and then shrugs his shoulders. For there was only so much he could do. He was not fast enough to get up the fire escape the girls were at. Not if he wanted to survive. The back row of zombies run into the wall of corpses and are prevented from getting to Norman, well the front row of zombies are just now getting to the fire escape. Norman takes his time to catch his breath. He is in no shape now to do what he did yesterday. Not after building a wall, and running as much as he did. All the commotion caused Terinica to come out and see what was happening. She went to Norman to talk to him. With Cathy behind her. Likely because Cathy refused to stay inside. Where it is safe. Lilly is still yelling at Norman and is even more mad to see her daughter on the roof along with them. Well, the ground both in front and behind the apartment buildings is full of zombies. |
