A BTS look at the Daisy and Mushroom City arcs of Toadette's Story. |
This serves as both an abridged retelling of the first two arcs of Toadette's Story , as well as a special look behind the scenes about how it all came together. This first section involves the recaps, so scroll down if you're more interested in the special. At the end, there is a preview for the upcoming arc in both English and Spanish. This overall article is English, however. On the bus, a boy slobbers on her nylon-covered feet, so she rushes to her best friend Minh’s shop to clean up. Whilst there, she catches Minh smelling her flats and learns of her strange interest in feet. Though disgusted, Toadette shrugs it off and continues to the castle. She quickly finds out that her new job offer is to be Princess Peach’s “foot slave”. Once more, she is a wreck, but beggars can’t be choosers. Her new home is the castle, and her new job is locked in place. Toadette is introduced to the concept of foot worship, as well as meeting Peach’s secret daughter Penelope. Though Penelope had been allowed to go through Toad Town on her own previously, Peach appoints Toadette as her unofficial nanny. The rebellious ten-year-old brings Toadette to Toad Town’s Playroom, where Minh happens to be lying. A tickle torture game engages, with Toadette as its victim, earning the girls various coins. Minh is quite pleased to have had to honour of smelling and tickling Toadette’s stinky feet. Things don’t remain peaceful for too long, as Peach hits Toadette with the first of many missions. “You know about the robbery in Sarasaland, right?” “I’m not familiar with that place, Your Highness.” “Apparently the thieves are said to come from this kingdom. The madwoman is coming by plane tomorrow, and she’s requested assistance. I don’t think you’ll disappoint her too much.” Daisy requires her crown, her golden soccer ball and her premium shoe collection. Toadette’s first encounter with Daisy is rough, involving lots of racism towards the mushroom people and violently interrogating the famous singer at Club 64. But it’s through this encounter that Daisy discovers Toadette’s aggressive side, as well as the fact that her thieves could be hiding underground. Being the cocky princess that she is, Daisy dares Toadette that she can walk through the sewers barefoot with no issue. Unfortunately, the frost catches up with her, and she drops dead whilst the girls are in the darkness. Toadette does the unthinkable: using her own sweaty feet to bring warmth to Daisy’s body. “Anybody who beats me in a challenge is worth something,” Daisy sighs. A giant Blooper nearly claims their lives, but Toadette takes it out and earns more of Daisy’s respect. The next day finds the girls, now joined by Penelope and (unexpectedly) Minh, heading to Mt Rugged after Minh gives a hint of the thieves’ location. Sure enough, they find them. “Who even are you?” Toadette demands to know, staring at a figure in a white robe. “Trying to track us down was a mistake, child. You play stupid games, you win stupid prizes.” Toadette uses the vile stench of her feet to her advantage, tricking the guards into smelling them so that they’d pass out. Daisy is even prouder of her temporary assistant, demanding that she drop the princess title when addressing her. Daisy and Toadette wait until sunset to enter the Dry Dry Ruins, making their way to the pit. An explosion suddenly demolishes the place, leaving Daisy pinned by a column while Toadette is heavily injured. “I don’t think we’re getting out,” the Toad whispers. “Don’t think. Confirm! That’s an order, Toadette!” Swallowing her pain, Toadette rockets up and runs to find a way out. She battles with another robed guard, ready to unmask him before he blows himself up. In the chaos, she collects a fragment of his remains and runs to find Minh burrowing into the sinking ruins. The florist helps Daisy and Toadette back to the surface, with Penelope keeping watch, and they all escape before it swallows them into the sand. Toadette also collected Daisy’s crown during the skirmish. Due to the remains Toadette kept, and assistance from Toad Town’s knowledge expert Russ T., they’re able to deduce that the thieves are Shy Guys. And so Toadette plans an assault on Shy Guy’s Toy Box, the very place that wrecked havoc on the city years ago. It just so happens that Shy Guys are weak to the elements that cause the stink of a foot. A game of hide-and-seek turns into a brawl as Toadette is left to fend for herself. In the process, she finds Daisy’s golden soccer ball—an object used to nearly destroy her body. But she finally reaches her main opponent: General Guy. The general captures Toadette and sits her alongside Minh, Daisy and Penelope. “Princess Daisy,” the man cackles. “How does it feel to not only have been outsmarted by us, but to have lost your country, your status and your unimpressive life?” “I’m not giving up my home to a scum-sucking loser like you.” A shock travels through the princess’ chair, stiffening her body like a statue. “Many Shy Guys in Sarasaland suffer under your leadership. They crave a man who will end the advantages of you humans and the other sub-races. This is the start of your punishment for the atrocious treatment you have given our people over the years!” He claps his hands. “Men, engage the first phase!” The girls are subjected to a tickle torture that seems relatively harmless, but it’s just an illusion. The chairs continue to shock them, and Toadette fears what happens when her body can’t take it anymore. Using Penelope’s childish thinking, they manage to free themselves and attack the Shy Guys. The final battle between General Guy and Daisy commences, with the military menace being the easy victor. “Come now,” he taunts as he drills his knee into her back. “You can lift hundreds of pounds but can’t catch a stationary general?” “Don’t mock me!” “Whether we be in the Mushroom Kingdom or Sarasaland, you privileged people step on us like trash. And here you have the nerve to get enraged when we finally react!” Crack! Toadette jumps into the fray, striking General Guy’s chest. “That woman doesn’t like mushrooms any more than she likes my people,” he says, lunging back. “Why ally yourself with a common threat, child? The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Let us settle our differences and lay this dictator to rest.” Toadette scoffs. “I had to crawl my ass out the desert twice, thanks to your goons.” “Get him, Toadette,” Minh screams from the sidelines. The two exchange blows until General Guy slams Toadette into a pillar. He drives her knee into the floor, expecting her to give up on the spot. But then… “Is that all you’ve got?” Toadette growls. She thinks about using her feet again. “Don’t bother. If we trained our elites to withstand your odour, what makes you think I’d be susceptible?” “You’re not as invincible as you think you are.” Toadette’s speed leaves General Guy at the mercy of her feet, but it’s not for long enough, as he singlehandedly defeats her and little Penelope, who limps as she tries to defend her new nanny. “I’m sorry, Miss Toadette…” “Move, Penelope,” Toadette cries out. “None of you knows when to surrender, do you?” General Guy asks, aiming his rifle at Penelope’s head. “Stubbornness must be a virtue in royalty.” “Coward!” Daisy snarls, coughing. “Don’t freaking touch her!” Minh uses Daisy’s golden soccer ball to shatter General Guy’s being, exposing the metal skeleton underneath used to host several Shy Guys and their leader. While Daisy could simply finish General Guy off, she reflects on her racist attitudes towards both Shy Guys and Toads, realising that she indeed triggered the chain of events for this situation. Against Penelope and Minh’s wishes for a basic punishment, Daisy compromises with General Guy, appointing him as a member of Sarasaland’s defence forces. “We can’t let him go,” Minh says, confused. “He almost killed us.” “And Daisy abused me on the first day I worked for her.” Toadette looks at the ashamed princess. “Her prejudice isn’t going anywhere right now, and neither are the Shy Guys’ murderous goals. But if we’re gonna give her a chance to improve, it’s only fair we let these guys get a chance. After all, they’re not gonna hurt us anymore, right?” “It’d be a great…conflict of interest,” General Guy groans. Daisy pulls General Guy onto his feet, and with a deep breath, the handshake is made. Daisy’s shoe collection is returned, and she gifts a decent number of smelly pairs to Minh in exchange for her help. She also gifts Toadette a pair of premium heels before waving off her new friend. --------------------------------------------------------- The Mushroom City Arc Recap Nearly one month after the robbery events, Toadette is run ragged by Peach. Her personal hygiene is a mess, and she’s tasked with producing a bunch of fruit juice with Minh T. To Toadette’s own surprise, she licks the berry juice off of her own feet, savouring the taste. The dreaded Mega Mushroom sees its first usage in Toadette’s new career, for she has Minh grow gigantic once Peach shortens the time limit. As painful as the transformation is for the Toad, she completes her duty and delivers the crushed berries. Peach has a new task for both girls: they must go to Boo’s Mansion to collect some rare seeds as well as exquisite heels from Lady Bow. Minh’s fear of ghosts is on full display as she shivers in the chilly Forever Forest. She and Toadette have a scuffle when Toadette refuses medical attention after being attacked by a Jungle Fuzzy, but as navigation is difficult, Minh can’t quit the mission. Rain picks up, and the girls find a wandering Penelope in the chaos. Toadette chastises the girl, who only ran away because she “knew they’d be there”. They’re safe for a while, but the Boos eventually capture them and trap them in the mansion, where the Toads get fed up with one another. “Every time I try to help you, you catch an attitude or dismiss me entirely,” Minh shrieks. “Then you wonder why you end up in the situations you do, dragging me along for the ride!” “Well excuse me,” Toadette responds, shoving her. “But your love of giving up has never helped anybody!” “Fight, fight, fight…” Penelope encourages them to use their heads and find an escape route, which Toadette does through the air vents. After being tickled by Minh’s nose on her feet, she slides out and they ride an elevator to the upper floors of the mansion. Unfortunately Boos are among them, and so they scare Toadette off the lift and force her to run on foot. Toadette eventually makes it to Lady Bow, who possesses her body and uses it to feel the satisfaction of getting her feet licked again. During this uncomfortable experience, Toadette envisions the Boos’ tongues as Minh’s tongue, suddenly feeling a bit more peaceful. Everything is settled in the end, though Minh’s fear of Boos remains as strong as ever. All of this prep was done in service of the Star Festival, an annual event held in Mushroom City that Peach is required to attend. She invites Toadette on their plane and allows Minh to travel for free as well (after some convincing from Penelope). Toadette dreads the visit, as she ran away from home six years prior. Reuniting with her family isn’t ideal, but she’s locked into going now. She gets a pedicure from Minh, as well as a new haircut. It’s the freshest she has looked in a month, and during the pedicure, she can’t help but stare at Minh’s feet some more. They look even more amazing with blue-painted toenails. That very night, Toadette is dreaming of Minh’s feet. The plane ride introduces Toadette to Captain Toad, a person she had only seen once since moving into the castle. His cocky attitude rubs her the wrong away, and the smell of his feet absolutely disgusts her. She’s even more sick of him when he can’t calm down the passengers after disaster occurs. Luigi, the plane’s pilot, has passed out. “How’d he pass out?” Toadette asked. “There’s a chance that I dared him to smell your flats,” Minh says. “My flats? I didn’t even pack those.” “I did.” “Why? What would possess you to do something that stupid?” “I thought it was funny. And I needed my stink comfort?” The plane is plummeting, but Minh’s gaming experience allows her to regain control of it in the air. She uses Toadette’s feet on her face as some kind of extra comfort, especially necessary because of how difficult her landing will be. She licks her best friend’s toes a ton, causing Toadette to squirm in her seat. “We made it,” Minh finally cries out when the plane hits the asphalt. “Let’s go,” Toadette groans. “I do not want to be off the ground anymore.” “Amen to… Toadette? Why are you blushing so much?” The rest of the day explores Toadette’s budding love of Minh’s feet, something she has to confess to herself while at a movie theatre. Sucking the popcorn butter off of Minh’s toes is an experience that almost leads her to having an orgasm. And yet Minh is completely clueless. Minh wants to take Toadette to an arcade the next day, but Captain Toad becomes the third wheel. He butts heads with both girls, especially Toadette since her feet gross him out. They win a bunch of tickets at the arcade, owned by a man named Illepacs. But he claims that he can’t accept their excellent performance, as nobody is truly expected to amass so many tickets. Feeling slighted, Toad destroys the counter and commands Minh and Toadette to steal as many goods as possible. “Mamma Mia! Shit!” “T and M, grab as much as you can, then let’s bounce!” “This is what I was afraid of…” Minh whispers. Though they fill their bags, Illepacs manages Toadette and Toad, reading to take out the former. But a bullet pierces his body, and he’s left lying in his blood as Captain Toad guides the girls to the backroom. “He won’t die, stupid,” he tells Minh. “I made sure of that with my aim.” “Trouble follows you like a dog! We could’ve gone home without being criminals, but no, you had to break the counter!” “I don’t see you dealing with serious decisions every week! You just sit and gorge yourself like the fat pig you are!” Minh’s panting gets echoey as she punches Toad hard in the face. “Call me that one more time, you tiny-dicked psycho!” “Enough!” Toadette forces them to get their act together. “Both of you better calm down before I’m the only one who escapes.” After a brief apology, they think of a plan. It’s determined that the best way to get back to the hotel is by shrinking Toad and Toadette with a Mini Mushroom, then having Minh run to the subway; she knows the city better than either of them, for it was where she was born. They later discover that Illepacs reversed spells “Scapelli”, a name associated with Wario and Waluigi. This crime family works under the two, so Captain Toad advises Toadette and Minh to try to avoid them as much as possible. But Peach makes them deal with the family, for she believes that they are up to something that will disrupt the Star Festival. She sends Toadette and Minh to have a bunch of coins delivered to the Scapellis—coins with microphones. When activated, the princess’ people will be able to hear everything. The process involves sucking out a foot fungus from the girl at the counter, but they manage. Then Toadette realises her little brother is working for the Scapellis. Minh learns this at the same time, but the even greater news is that Minh recognises the boy so easily. Toadette deduces that Minh had been talking to her family for some time, which Minh fails to deny effectively. The two lash out against one another, with Minh confronting Toadette at the hotel. “I love you, but you are the worst sister ever. Of course Dane T. thought you were dead! And your mom, and I suppose everyone else in your family. Ain’t like they saw you since after that incident.” “You’re wrong,” Toadette says, shaking her head. “They know I’m fine. It’s obvious.” “Just because you say it, it doesn’t make it true.” The girls agree that Toadette will reveal herself proper to her family, but right now, there are other important matters. Captain Toad never activated the coin microphones, so they have to track Dane down before he can reach the Scapellis. Piranha Plant Slide is a confusing labyrinth that traps the girls in a shaft, where they are slowly poisoned. To their relief, Dane comes to their rescue. But upon leaving the sewers, Toadette is greatly sick, requiring immediate attention. “I can’t breathe,” she pants. “Please! Minh, help me!” “Ugh, we wouldn’t even be dealing with this if you hadn’t been working for these hooligans,” Minh yells at Dane. “Don’t take this out on me! Why were you even following me?” “We’re taking her to your house,” Minh explains as she lifts Toadette’s pained body. “If we go to a hospital, they’re gonna find out we were in a place we shouldn’t have been in.” Toadette’s apartment brings back tons of bad memories. She’d only been there for one day, the very day she ran away. Seeing her abusive mother before her triggers various emotions, but she manages to mask them. However, the older woman has her suspicions. “Her eyes are the same colour as TT’s.” “Nah, those are contacts. She’s a natural emerald-eye,” Minh says. “She uses contacts even though she’s obviously wearing glasses?” “Ask her eye doctor about it, ‘cause I ain’t got an explanation.” Later on the balcony, T. Ana confesses her regrets about how she treated Toadette growing up. Toadette still doesn’t reveal her true identity, but she sits even more conflicted than ever. “I kept telling that girl she wasn’t allowed to date. I got mad when she brought Minh T. to our house the first time. I broke her nose once just because she walked in on me smoking. I loved partying, drinking and sex more than my own daughter!” She takes a breath. “I’d be happy to have another chance with my girl. Missing six years of my daughter’s life is better than never knowing the girl past her thirteenth year.” “I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you,” Toadette says. With assistance from Dane, they (along with Captain Toad) infiltrate one of the Scapellis’ bases and activate the coins. Captain Toad and Toadette are both forced to suck a man’s cock before this can even go through, with Toadette being so angry at seeing Toad pleasure somebody that she nearly chomps the man’s penis off. The escape is rough, with all four members injured. Toadette has a bullet through her stomach, and she confesses to Dane that she’s his sister before making him use a Starman (Super Star). The boy’s body can’t handle it, so he risks killing them all, but the worst is a gigantic explosion. They drop him off home and have Toadette heal with the last Life Shroom the castle’s staff has. Toad jokes about how he’s probably going to need that super rare item later. Toad eventually learns of Minh’s foot fetish, though she claps back by announcing his pegging interest in front of a very confused Toadette. They wait for Toadette to reveal a sex secret, but she keeps her lips sealed. After Toad forces her to massage his feet, he realises she truly is a foot freak just like her friend. “I’m tired, I rubbed your putrid feet,” Toadette groans. “I need to—” “Make a better poker face? I’ll be a good boy for once and not tell the confirmed foot freak. You do that on your own time.” He kisses her on her cheek, making him the first guy to ever go out his way to kiss Toadette. The only one she hasn’t had to reject, at least. Toadette’s next mission comes from her mother, after she returns to the apartment with Minh and Penelope (who just survived a race with a member of the Scapellis). T. Ana has discovered who Toadette truly is, and she drives her to a Scapelli building located within Mushroom City rather than on the far outskirts. “I can’t believe that DT is working with them just for extra money when we’re doing fine.” “Not that fine when you’re one step above Poverty Land,” Toadette shoots back. “Whatever problems you have with me, I need you to take care of this for him.” She hands Toadette a bag and note. “You’re gonna burn this whole building down. Nice, orange flames.” “No, I’m not.” “Oh, yes, you will,” T. Ana says, pinching her daughter’s cheeks. “We haven’t killed any Scapellis yet, and if they find out I did, we’re all gonna have bounties on our heads.” “Both of you will be home by nine, right?” T. Ana drives off. Toadette is shocked to discover Penelope hiding in the bag, but the two must work together to find Dane and get him out the building. They all work together, and everything is going smoothly until Dane lights the building aflame with Toadette still inside. Though she manages to escape, she is livid for the potential consequences. “Do you realise what you’ve done?” she screams. “Mmm-hmm. I got my revenge on those dickheads, and now I can be content knowing that the rest of your stay in Mushroom City is gonna be hell. Isn’t that just peachy, TT?” Once they’re at the apartment, Toadette reveals to her brother and mother how everything went down six years ago. Not wanting to leave Toad Town, a thirteen-year-old Toadette hatched a plan to run away the second she was in Mushroom City. She would’ve framed it as if she was in a completely different kingdom, somewhere distant. Then the explosion on Mushroom Bridge nearly claimed her life, and she hitchhiked to Toad Town, where an enraged Minh proceeded to attack her. “You seriously walked all the way from Mushroom City to Toad Town? What the actual fuck is wrong with you?” A younger Minh grabs Toadette by the collar with her non-bloodied hand. “Maybe your mom was right when she called you dumb all these years.” “Fuck you, you grimy-foot-having, baby-voiced, cum-guzzling slut!” “Everything you do affects someone deep. You’re just too blind or too stupid to realise.” Toadette and Dane are still on shaky terms, but as the days march on, they slowly begin to rekindle their relationship (enough to where they engage in some definitely illegal activities). The same is true for Toadette and T. Ana, as Toadette gradually feels more comfortable hanging around her mother. It’s like the childhood she never had. The Star Festival arrives, and it’s a total blast for the girls. Toadette’s reused high school dress catches the eye of Captain Toad, who is forced to kiss her ass after losing a balancing game. Toadette gets to meet back up with Daisy, who had been absent in her life for over a month now. Minh even gets to embrace her foot fetish, worshipping the feet of Toadette’s whole family under the guise of it being silly fun. Once the comets start raining down, Toadette pulls Minh in for a kiss: not one on the cheek but on the lips. Everything is magical. Then the destruction happens. A giant Bonzai Bill obliterates the centre of the festival, creating a gaping hole and over one thousand deaths in an instant. Toadette fights with Captain Toad, desperate to find her family and Minh. She finds Minh deep in the crater, but her family remains to be seen. Toad hands her a gun, telling her to make every bullet count while he and his men tend to the flames. Toadette wipes out a few Scapellis, even teaming up with some of the Shy Guys who previously were her enemies. But her left arm is destroyed by the one who forced her to give him oral during the coin operation. T. Ana shoots him dead, ready to help her daughter before Illepacs blasts her. The angered Scapelli then takes out Dane, shooting him in the throat as the boy jumps to save Toadette. Feeling hopeless, Toadette shoots Illepacs in the head, then collapses near her loved ones. “I didn’t want any of this, DT! I’m so sorry!” At the hospital, Penelope is shown to have suffered a sliced eyeball—her mother’s high status means that she will get it treated. Captain Toad is thankfully free of most injuries, but Minh has lost use of both her legs for weeks. Toadette’s left arm is critically injured but can heal. The big concern comes from Dane, who will be unable to speak a single word for the rest of his life. Toadette’s funds couldn’t possibly cover the treatment, so she pleads with Peach to help him. Peach agrees, but only if Toadette agrees to work in a more active position for her. Toadette had already demonstrated that she was more than capable of being more than a foot slave, and Peach believes she needs some kind of skilled errand girl who could prove more competent than her troops. Toadette agrees, and so ends the Mushroom City Arc. --------------------------------------------------------- Toadette's Story Special Look: Arc 1 & Arc 2 Hello there. I, Vanilla, want to go over how Toadette’s Story developed. You’ll find some additional insights I had regarding the characters, ideas and images that didn’t make the cut, and a glimpse into my creative process, among other things. It’s worth noting that this special will only cover the first two arcs, which are Chapters 1 through 70. Anything involving future content will be reserved for when those arcs have concluded. Also, and it should go without saying, but this is a spoiler warning for those 70 chapters. By December of 2020, I had been making foot fetish art for over two years. While it was and continues to be something I adore, I also had an interest in writing. That month, I submitted my first standalone foot fetish story, Tails and Cream. My Mario drawings, specifically the ones that were linked together, took a break around the middle of that year. I thought that writing a Mario story would help to maintain interest, and featuring Toadette was exciting since she has always been one of my favourite characters from the franchise. Of note, the slowdown in Mario images since 2020 wasn’t and isn’t a fault of Toadette’s Story, as their developments don’t cross much at all. It’s a result of problems I have struggling various projects. One of the flaws of being an idea generator like myself is that I can lose steam in a project quickly, no matter how passionate I am about it. I’m going to constantly continue to battle with this. I also wanted a story that could stand on its own. While the events will influence the drawings, it’s not essential to read the narrative. I believe it’s unreasonable to expect audiences to engage with two different formats to comprehend what is going on in your plot, as seen in examples like Final Fantasy XV and Five Nights at Freddy’s; the former requires players to watch movies while the latter requires players to read books with vague canonicity. Toadette’s Story serves as a nice bonus for those interested, while anyone who reasonably only cares for the content in the foot images can skip it; any important info from Toadette’s Story will simple be introduced within the drawings. I would’ve never made it mandatory due to the language barrier. The story is in English and has only recently received a Spanish translation. In contrast, the drawings are now standardised in English, Spanish, German, French, Italian and Portuguese. That’d be unfair to those who don’t want to or can’t read a whole book in English or Spanish. Time Clarification One of the things that I realised needed clarification was the timeline. It’s hard to have flashbacks when the exact year is unclear, no? I decided to have the story begin in 2011, but it’s important to understand that their version of 2011 doesn’t mirror ours perfectly. Changes must occur as time progresses, but I prefer to have a world where the Internet and technology are a bit reduced compared to our world. For instance, Toadette still uses a cell phone, which is considered somewhat lame yet acceptable. She will likely continue to use it in the future. The main element that’d be based on the current year is the popular Nintendo console in use. Toadette and Minh were both born in 1992 (making them nineteen as of the Daisy Arc), Peach was born in 1980 (making her thirty-one as of the Daisy Arc), and Penelope was born in 2001. Some of the Mario games are said to have their events canon here, though the only concrete example I know is that the events of Paper Mario happened in 2001 in-universe. Minh’s shop was attacked that year. Starting in the upcoming Ethereal Stars arc, time will be appropriately marked. The Daisy Arc (Chapters 1-29) The story begins with Toadette riding a bus to her new job interview at Princess Peach’s castle. After an incident involving a boy licking her nyloned foot, she rushes her to her best friend’s flower shop to clean off. There she discovers that said friend happens to have her own dirty foot fetish. Toadette hopes that this is the end of her foot antics, but she has no clue what she’s in for once introduced to Peach, her daughter and the eventual Princess Daisy. Production This arc began in December 2020 and concluded in September 2022. It’s only called the Daisy Arc in retrospect, as it had no name originally. But since Daisy is a major component of this story period, this made the most sense to me. Due to being the beginning of the story and of me writing foot fanfiction in general, it was far rougher than the Mushroom City Arc that would come later. I didn’t have a concrete plan, for instance. Have you ever seen Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul? If not, you should, but the writers often didn’t have a firm plan on where things were going to go in either show. They knew how they started and ended, but everything else was strung along. That’s how I’d describe my writing process for Toadette’s Story: there are definite points, but how we get to those points is where the heavy thinking happens. The characters weren’t originally planned to go to the desert. That came about because I felt the arc would be too short and anticlimactic if there weren’t any misleads or twists. And it worked for the better, as I consider chapters 17 to 22 to be solid. The thieves were always planned to be the Shy Guys, however. Scrapped Ideas The biggest idea I recall being scrapped involved Toadette worshipping Daisy and Peach simultaneously. It’s a hot image, but it was difficult to slot in because the princesses clash in the story. I wanted to revisit it during the Mushroom City Arc, but Daisy only appeared physically in two chapters, one taking place during the Star Festival attack. I have plans to fit it into one of the future arcs, however. Otherwise, there wasn’t much scrapped in this arc compared to the second one. I had less of a plan going into this one, whereas I had an outline on where I wanted the second one to go. The Remixes for Chapters 1 Through 8 When I knew I was transferring this story over to writing.com as a backup, I realised that I needed to do some work to get people to take this seriously. I have a high standard for my works, but even eighteen-year-old me didn’t understand that dialogue should be in separate paragraphs. I also had a pacing problem, with the first chapter being too long in setup. So I rewrote Chapters 1 through 8 before submitting 9. In terms of what is different, firstly, I stopped writing in .rtf files and moved over to .docx. WordPad is a functional text editor on Windows, but the .rtf format cannot store images nearly as cleanly as .docx; original Chapter 8 is 12 MB in its .docx form and 109 MB in its .rtf form. Chapter 1 has the most changes. It originally had these bold mini sections to highlight what was going on in the story. I did this with “Tails and Cream” also, and it’s because I thought people would have too little of an attention span. I thought they’d want to get to the juicy bits easily, so I marked them properly. It also had three illustrations. The remixed version remade two of the images (a third was planned, but didn’t make it), updating the style to what was current of the 2021 look. In addition to the pacing being cleaned up, Toadette’s conversation with Minh was cut out, likely because it made more sense to slot it in on the next day. Most of the later changes are just stylistic, with smoother prose and tighter dialogue. The biggest loss of these remixed chapters is that only the first one has illustrations. While I originally wanted to remake them all, I found it too much work that wasn’t worth it, and I didn’t want the formatting mismatch. Scrapping them was unfortunately easier. The biggest story change is the replacement of the generic Toad who assists Toadette on the staircase in Chapter 6 (Preparations) with Captain Toad. Although he doesn’t introduce himself by that name, he offers Toadette a Yoshi Cookie while trying to flirt with her. Looking back, I’m not sure how important it was for these characters to meet before the plane ride to Mushroom City, but it felt more natural than him appearing out of the blue. When I was revising Chapter 6, I didn’t know when I was going to use Captain Toad again. I just knew I wanted to include him eventually. The Illustrations I’ve read many opinions online about people not liking illustrations in fanfiction. Actually, this extends to books in general, unless they’re meant for kids. I understand this viewpoint, as allowing your imagination to illustrate the scenes can lead to better experiences. Unlike comics or films, which need a visual interpretation, stories rely solely on text, so your brain is filling in all the details. And I know I’ve been disappointed when a book’s characters look nothing like what I’d envisioned. However, when it comes to Toadette’s Story, I didn’t consider any of this. I just wanted to draw because I’m an artist. Art enhances this story more than it detracts from it. To begin with, the art is consistent with the writing. Everything you see is a deliberate choice from me; I’m not just grabbing random images from the Internet to elevate the fanfiction. I’m both the author and the illustrator. Moreover, this story has a large emphasis on feet. While the action might cause one to forget this at points, feet are the main sex object here. Although foot stories can be lovely without visuals, many foot lovers appreciate being able to stare at beautiful feet. I think my story has caught more attention with illustrations than it would’ve without them, as people tend to engage more instantly to pictures than text. Foot art is way more popular than foot literature. Rather than going over every drawing, I’ll go over the ones I have the most to talk about. In Chapter 9, this image shows the new formatted I had adopted. I chose a 4:3 aspect ratio, reminiscent of TV before the widescreen era dominated. Chalk it up to the autism and a fascination with media, but I’m very picky about what aspect ratio I choose in drawings. I also reduced the borders, which were previously too thick. I eventually started rendering these drawings without borders as options, but that change occurs in the later Mushroom City chapters. The reason they have borders in the first place is because I found them to look neater on any given website versus if they had none. This comes from Chapter 10, when Daisy is daring Toadette that she can walk barefoot through Toad Town Tunnels and come out fine. Boy, Daisy had no idea what she was in for. One of the coolest things about Toadette’s Story having illustrations is that it allows me to explore ideas that might not stand out on their own. Daisy having foul shoes fits perfectly within the story, but outside of that context, they might not grab attention. Then again, that green smoke might’ve. If you’re a fan of my work, you might remember I revisited the concept of foot odour in Star’s Slender Soles in 2022. It's certainly cartoonish, but it’s playfully cartoonish. This one from Chapter 15 always struck me as the funniest drawing of this arc. I don’t tend to focus on comedy for the illustrations, but I’m glad I did here. It mainly comes down to Penelope’s shocked expression for me. This illustration wasn’t my first time dealing with a moving background in a vehicle, but it was the second time I did this for Toadette’s Story. The reason it’s the second is because the remixed image for Chapter 1 has Toadette on a bus as well, and that was rendered literally one day before this one. All three illustrations from Chapter 18 are worth talking about for several reasons. For one, it’s uncommon for Toadette’s Story nowadays to feature three illustrations in one chapter. During the Mushroom City Arc, I realised that less is more, and getting these chapters out in a timely manner would only work if I trimmed the number of drawings. While some might miss the sheer number of illustrations, the trade-off is that you’re getting higher-quality pictures overall and a more consistent upload schedule. A chapter has to be very important to justify having three images, like the upcoming Chapter 27. Secondly, General Guy’s disguise here took inspiration from Organization XIII from Kingdom Hearts. I’m a big fan of that series—been one since 2007—and though I’m sick of those coats now, I couldn’t help but borrow the look. It does a good job at keeping someone mysterious, and the colour scheme was chosen to hint that this was General Guy. I’m curious if any reader at the time picked up on that. Thirdly, lots of effects went on to make this desert convincing. With the sandstorm layer and warping disabled, the drawings lack a lot of oomph. Putting all the effects together, while time-consuming, paid off greatly. When looking at them now, I can feel the intense heat. Drawing characters from this specific angle continues to cause me headaches. Whenever the head is tilted up or down, it’s trickier to work with. This is especially true when dealing with the Mario franchise, as the Toads’ caps complicate things. We see a PlayStation reference here. This was past the cringey 2018-2019 era where I shoved dumb references into everything, so I’m kind of surprised to see it appear here. But it must’ve been because I thought of how the Magikoopa (Kamek) spells looked. They also use coloured geometric symbols, so this didn’t feel too unfitting for me. It’s so minor that it’s harmless. Around Chapter 27, I started putting more effort into improving my character anatomy. It’s still a challenge today, as learning to exaggerate is also important. However, I believe this is when the quality of the art in Toadette’s Story noticeably improved. This image is one of the few where I got outside advice. Toadette was initially drawn standing upright, but local nitpicker TheJesterMime—a fellow artist whom I’d known for years—suggested that “her pose could come off as more dramatic”. I tend to approach suggestions with an old-school Disney animator mindset. If somebody wants a change, chances are good that they want more than a small tweak. So I redrew the entire piece, and it’s much better for it. Within the same chapter, we got this image. Oh boy, this image… Before this point, I had never drawn four characters in one image before. The most I had done were three, with examples being the PowerPuff Girls or the Gullwings in their Kingdom Hearts II style. Four characters, to this day, make for a hell of a challenge. Not only is it hard to fit them all in the frame completely, but it’s just so much work to line them all. I could’ve easily placed them in stocks and covered up most of their bodies, but I wanted to go the extra mile. Though this does rank as one of the more intense tickling pieces I’ve done, so there’s that appeal. I am proud of this drawing, make no mistake. It’s just… So much pain. In terms of images that were scrapped, there aren’t many remnants of those. What I know is that Chapter 23—the chapter in which Toadette has to let Russ T. masturbate for information—was supposed to have three images. The first has Toadette talking with Russ, and the second has a POV with Toadette’s feet. Only the third got finalised, with Minh licking Russ’ semen off her fingers. Fun fact: that is actually one of my least favourite illustrations for this story. Not because it’s completely terrible, but Minh’s head proportions are noticeably incorrect. In addition, Chapter 24 was going to have an image of Penelope proudly showing her stinky shoe to Toadette as proof of her efforts. It’s interesting how this one was fully done on paper, as it came in 2022: the year I’d mostly gone fully digital. As mentioned previously, Chapter 1’s remixed images were cut to two. Although, there were going to be four, with the new one being of Minh crying. Exploring the Characters Toadette: The Leading Lady One of the things that could make or break fanfiction is authenticity. While some are fine with character changes from the source material, others can be offended. I see both sides. With this specific story, I’ve taken many liberties. I’m pleased with the adjustments I’ve made to the characters and world, as this is still the Mario universe at its core. The story has various enemies, items and locations from the games, but it also introduces more adult themes. This means that Toadette doesn’t begin as the cheerful, optimistic goober we know from the video games. Writing Toadette was challenging because she’s meant to despise feet. They’re ugly tools for walking and nothing more. However, while this enhances her personality, a foot fetishist doesn’t want to read a story where the main character is completely dunking on feet every single chance she gets. The solution came in the first chapter, where Toadette tells Minh that she doesn’t care about her liking of feet, as long as she doesn’t touch hers. It shows that Toadette isn’t completely shallow. And over the course of the Daisy Arc, while she still doesn’t like feet, she is gradually less hostile about them. The reason she has glasses is a holdover of how I drew her once. She and Isabelle from Animal Crossing are characters whom I just plopped glasses onto for no real reason, other than that I thought they looked cute. I’m somebody who, in the real world, would rather wear glasses than wear contact lenses. I’ll be damned if I’m touching my eyeball. Interestingly, based on Super Mario Wonder, Nintendo considers Toadette’s ball thingies to be pigtails. That kind of makes sense, as they appear closer to the back of her cap in canon. But I’ve opted for the term “braids”, as I don’t get a pigtail vibe from them. Although, there will be a character with pigtails eventually. Because there’s action in this story, Toadette has to fight at points. However, I knew not to make her a skilled fighter. She can fight on the most basic level, with an example shown in Chapter 22 (The Ruined Ruins). In this chapter, after the Dry Dry Ruins have suffered an internal collapse, Toadette fights a hooded Shy Stack and only wins because of her endurance. Her speed is good, but Toads are at a natural disadvantage with strength. The trait of her fast speed comes from me, as I’m somebody who has loved to run around since elementary school. She has also inherited my autism. This is a holdover of when I drew her in the past, just having a random autism sign in her bedroom. And that trait got carried over within that Mario drawing series for one line of dialogue, so yeah, it’s canon. I don’t believe it’s said she’s autistic in this arc, and frankly, I wouldn’t blame you for not noticing it. My explanation is that she was a lot more socially impaired as a child; she had a better vocabulary than many of her peers, but she was a mute to most she didn’t trust. And she wasn’t some genius child who got perfect grades. This mimics my experience in the real world. The fact is that autism is a scale, and with enough practice (especially for high-functioning autistics), most traits can be covered up as an adult. Toadette is one of those who blends in easily. While it sounds like Toadette is a self-insert character, and those fanfiction stories normally leave a bad taste in my mouth, I don’t consider her a self-insert. For one thing, Toadette and I don’t share the same interests in feet. Within this arc alone, she is not down for sucking somebody’s toes. She doesn’t even want her own feet played with, really. Even when receiving a foot massage from Daisy, Toadette is a little nervous. If I were in her shoes, I’d be sucking the grime from between all those grubby toes. And secondly, she’s merciful. I don’t think I could’ve spared those Shy Guys if they tried to kill me. Fortunately for the people who wanted Toadette to not just worship feet in a submissive position, her tastes would be corrupted after this arc concluded. Minh T.: Toadette's Weird Best Friend In crafting this story, I knew Toadette was going to have an arc that involved disliking feet. It seemed odd, especially since the Mario drawings suggest that she’s only learning to like feet in the future, but that will be explained…eventually. If I don’t die. Anyways, while Peach was going to introduce her to foot fetishism from a domination perspective, I wanted a character who would force her into it in a sexual way. Minh T. was my top pick because much of my inspiration stems from the first two Paper Mario games. Although many NPCs in the first game can be ignored, Minh is mandatory to gain access to Chapter 6. Thus, I decided she would be Toadette’s best friend, with a dark secret that would come to light at the start of Toadette’s adventure. Converting her from a basic gardener into a gardener and florist was easy, and her tendency to get dirty only made her more attractive. I wanted to reserve her sweet nature and not turn her into some rowdy tomboy. After all, feminine girls can have some dirt on their feet, right? If only I could explain why I chose to depict her as essentially Hispanic. Putting myself back in my 2020-21 mindset, it had to have been just to make her stand out from other Toads. Unlike a few out there, I don’t get turned on just because a person is labelled Latina; it’s a tad bit shallow from my POV. While it’s a minor detail here, a character’s identity also doesn’t need to be explicit to be meaningful. It’s simply a way to differentiate her from other Toads, and in the upcoming 2025 arc, you’ll see more of her family dynamics. On that note, she was going to be darker originally. Not brown, just slightly tanned, because all the characters in the original Paper Mario have darker skin for whatever reason; the game’s palette is simply not bright. I likely made her light because I didn’t consider Toads with drastically varying skin tones this early on. The Mario franchise has only slightly shifted their palettes in spin-offs. I’m happy I made the decision to choose Minh as Toadette’s best friend, as I love having the chance to draw her. It’s a bit of a shame that we don’t get to see her feet too grimy in the earlier arc, and even the Mushroom City Arc has them quite tame. Dirt is nice, but it’s that grime—that hot, earthly foot cheese—that drives me crazy. Though, per usual, that is something I want to rectify down the line. You’ll also notice how Minh isn’t too big in that image above. While it wouldn’t reflect in her body until later, it was established around Chapter 20—the short chapter in the Dry Dry Outpost inn—that Minh is conscious about her body. Concerning the smell of her feet, that is one area where she falls short compared to Toadette. If you’re a fan of super stinky feet, Minh has to really be working hard to get hers to properly stink. They can have a natural odour, but not one that’s gonna make you jump out of your socks. However, if you’re not a fan of smelly feet, or you prefer a hint of lotion, then Minh is the superior option. Even with dirty toes. Penelope: A Borrowed Character A lot of people might accidentally think that Penelope is a character I made, and I can’t blame them. I should’ve made it a disclaimer originally, like it was for the illustrations. But Penelope was originally made by DeviantArt user Shake-Zula. I liked this miniaturised daughter of Peach, especially in the foot commissions he ordered from Bad-Pierrot. I asked for permission to use her for a standalone drawing in 2019, and he was cool with it, so she has stuck around to this day. Hell, that drawing of Toadette licking Penelope’s feet is basically the start of this whole Mario thing. So you can thank him personally. With this story being originally on DeviantArt exclusively, it was risky to have Penelope involved. After all, it’s no secret that she’s a kid, and her first chapters have her strutting through Toad Town in nothing but a swimsuit. But, surprisingly, Penelope’s feet aren’t even worshipped that much in the grand scheme of this arc. The same applies to the Mushroom City Arc. However, unlike that second arc, I feel I didn’t sideline Penelope during this first go. She’s absent once Daisy first arrives, but she’s quickly involved once Toadette and Daisy go out again. From that point onward, she stays as active as the other characters. Princess Daisy: Smelly Feet Galore Within the Mario universe, Daisy is my favourite character. I’ve always found her so beautiful since I was a kid. I would have dreams of being her foot-cleaning slave, completely unaware of the sexual connotations. Admittedly, I rushed her introduction. If I could’ve redone the story, I would’ve had Toadette spend more time with Peach, and then introduce Daisy. It’s hard to believe, but Daisy’s arrival was built up in the fifth chapter and solidified in the seventh chapter. That said, I’m glad with what I managed to do with her in her chapters. Being a lot more playful than Peach with her feet helped her to stand out, and it goes without saying that I loved whenever I got the chance to draw them. Giving her this weird backstory of why she likes getting her feet played with was fun, especially since it involved some sleepy action with Peach. I got enough out of Daisy’s antics in this chapter, and while she sits out during the Mushroom City Arc, she’s not out of the game for good. You want more Daisy soles? Allow me to pour you a cup of patience. Daisy is the character that adds some seriousness to this arc by the end, considering the political situation with her country. Consider that she’s openly racist towards Shy Guys and Toads, unable to see how her prejudice is harmful. I often wondered if shifting focus from the feet content to something heavier would be uncomfortable, but after 70 chapters, it’s clear that I’ve accepted this choice. The story remains erotic, but now it includes a plot that enhances the characters and makes them more engaging—in effect, the spicy bits feel a lot more worthwhile. As mentioned earlier, my main regret is not having her feet worshipped alongside Peach’s. Princess Peach: Mushroom Kingdom's Ruler Of the borrowed characters, it is Peach who will feel the most off to readers, I imagine. Rather than being her bubbly self from the games, she’s a lot more passive-aggressive and dominant. This personality shift tries to be explained in Daisy’s story during Chapter 13, but Peach enters the room before it can be continued. I hope to flesh it out some more, though not so much to where one can’t use their imagination to fill in the blanks. Peach has some of the biggest feet for a human in this world. This carries over from when I drew her in the past, giving her these incredibly depth-defining arches. Her feet constantly prove to be a challenge for Toadette, as Toads are very small. It’s not obvious because the Toads aren’t seen standing next to humans in illustrations, but they’re close to five feet (150 cm) at max whereas humans can go above 5’8 (173 cm). Vanilla's Favourite Chapters Desert Survival (Chapter 18) Desert Survival is when I felt this story was beginning to pick up. Beforehand, things were working, but now we got a glimpse at the proper villain of the arc. The tension is hot from the get-go, with Toadette and Penelope sprinting to save Minh and Daisy. Setting aside the story and action, this foot fetish theme is one of my less explored interests, yet it’s one I enjoy a ton: a stinky foot contest. The idea of judging who has the smelliest feet is such a turn on, and even in a life-or-death situation, some of the descriptions get deliciously juicy. Minh’s sarcastic quip about how the guards could swallow her toe jam is a highlight. There’s also some humour when Daisy expects she’ll be executed due to how bad her feet smell, and yet it’s revealed that Toadette’s odour overpowers hers. It is also the chapter where Daisy’s respect for Toadette grows higher, even more than the Blooper incident. Vs. General Guy (Chapter 28) This one lacks most of the fun foot content of its previous chapter, instead focused on the battle against General Guy. However, I think it’s a more engaging chapter purely from a story focus. Firstly, we get to see Daisy properly taken down a peg. Previous times, she was caught off-guard. This time, she engaged the fight and still lost. And it’s a fight that involves all four of the girls, with even a bloodied Penelope brave enough to risk her life for Toadette. This wasn’t that fun to write, seeing Daisy tortured and in brutal pain. But it’s what you gotta get through to make art. In retrospect, I can admit that Minh being able to kick the golden soccer ball is a little contrived. Maybe it was me being stereotypical, imagining because she speaks Spanish that she’s played soccer before. But Minh canonically isn’t a huge fan of exercise. It comes out of nowhere, especially since she’s barefoot and not that strong. That ball should’ve broken her foot. The only saving grace is that she misses the first time. If she had gotten General Guy perfectly on the first kick, that’d be complete bullshit. Vanilla's Least Favourite Chapter It’s easy to pick a least favourite chapter from this arc, because most of them are in the beginning. They’re very short and lack re-read value, strictly from the perspective of the author. I’m going with Well-Deserved Massage (Chapter 12) as my least favourite. It’s not that it’s terrible, but it doesn’t stand out as much as the others. Toadette receives a massage from Daisy, which is meant to be her reward for the Toad Town Tunnels incident. However, it should’ve felt a little grander than it does in its current form. Even the illustration can’t save it, as it uses that blue shading that I’ve come to dislike. I think that Minh T.’s Foot Massage (Chapter 20), while also crazily short and a contender for this position, has better pictures and character interactions. We learn more about Toadette, Penelope and Minh, whereas not much is learnt in Chapter 12. Huh, I kind of screwed the pooch on both of the dedicated massage chapters. Massaging is one of the hardest foot actions to write a story about, so I’m not surprised. Miscellaneous Facts • The title for Chapter 4, Gambler’s Paradise, is based off Gangster’s Paradise. At least one user on DeviantArt caught that reference. • The beginning of Chapter 23 (Exchanging Goods) is referred to as Chapter 22.5 (A Night of Healing) on writing.com. My idea was to have a small buffer chapter while I worked on Chapter 23, as there was a longer gap of time. But I scrapped the idea of continuing this, as it would’ve just been time wasted; anything relevant can be in a main chapter. • Aside from Chapter 1, the chapter with the most views on WDC is Chapter 11 (Princess Daisy’s Ticklish Soles). It sits at 1,360 views as of 9 November 2024. I’m not too surprised, given the name is attractive. • There was a two-month gap between Chapters 28 and 29, despite 29 being the conclusion. Other than poor time management, I cannot explain why it took so long to conclude this arc. --------------------------------------------------------- The Mushroom City Arc (Chapters 30-70) The Mushroom City Arc is themed around the Star Festival in the titular Mushroom City. This arc spans forty chapters, eleven more than what the Daisy Arc preceding it contained. Similar to the Daisy Arc, the beginning chapters serve more to establish the adventure and characters before jumping into the new territory. Rather than dealing with the Playroom, Toadette and Minh find themselves lost in the dreaded Forever Forest before being sent for a ride through Boo’s Mansion. Once in Mushroom City, they’re not only dealing with preparing the Star Festival, but they’re also tasked with preventing a major attack from a family known as the Scapellis. As if matters can’t get worse, Toadette’s estranged family lives here, and she’s bound to cross their paths as the Scapellis have her brother working for them. Finally, adding the final sweat fuel to the fire, Toadette’s dislike of feet slowly sheds as she finds herself getting more and more into her best friend. It's an incredibly emotional era of Toadette’s life. Production This arc started on 30 September 2022 and concluded on 31 August 2024: two years. Even for forty chapters, this feels ridiculous to me. It’s one of the areas I’m most disappointed about this arc. Sure, it’s fine when you’re consuming the story later, but the waits between certain chapters were painful for fans. This is why I’m planning a break in uploads between this arc and the one set for 2025. This will create a buffer of chapters to release weekly (mostly). Consistency is key: giving fans a specific day to anticipate is rewarding. It’s like being a kid, eagerly waiting to catch the newest episode of your story-driven TV show. It was during the Mushroom City arc that I began to upload Toadette’s Story to Archive of Our Own, which I think is better than WDC in most ways. The layout isn’t my favourite, but it really is a good literature archive. Unfortunately, this arc saw the most meddling, as I lost three DeviantArt accounts within this two-year span. My first account was deleted in August of 2023, the second in June 2024 and the final in September 2024. People primarily reading the story on that platform got screwed, especially if they made folders for it. I tried to make my messaging clear that my content is on other platforms, but I’ve spoken into that megaphone as much as possible. It’s a shame that DeviantArt has degraded so much, ashamed of the very art that gathered a community on it. Much of the planning of this arc was in my head, with me fantasising several scenes and how they could play out. Though, compared to the Daisy Arc, many more notes were jotted down on how it could go. The Various Scrapped Plans Concepts of a Plan I have a physically written document that goes over some concepts for this period. Some original plans were: • No detour to Forever Forest. • They were going to Mushroom City by bus originally, which would’ve taken days. • Peach was supposed to meet Toadette’s family at their apartment. • Dane T. wouldn’t have had any hate for Toadette, just happiness that she’s alive. I made this plan as soon as I was done with the Daisy stuff, or just before I was wrapping it up. And I’m glad I didn’t go through with any of these decisions, as they would’ve made the experience worse. My phone also has notes from 2021 and 2022 on what could’ve occurred in Mushroom City: • Minh reveals she’s been talking to Toadette’s family for the past two years. • Dane makes his way to Toad Town, where he finds encounters Toadette playing with Penelope in the garden. When he calls her TT, she knows it’s him and is horrified. • Dane got suspicious on how Minh would occasionally refer to Toadette as if she were still alive. • Toadette’s cap was the only thing meant to be changed, not her hair. • T. Ana panics upon seeing Toadette, believing her to be a ghost. • he antagonist could be Bowser in some form. The closest that made it into the final story is Minh’s secret. The only difference is that she’s been talking longer, although I cannot recall if it’s specified for how long. We can assume it was at least four years, if not the entire six. Implementing Bowser could’ve made more sense than the Scapellis, as he was the one responsible for previously destroying Mushroom Bridge. I believe I made the switch because of the more grounded direction I took with this arc, telling myself that Bowser and potentially the Koopalings could wait. A shared change with both plans is that Toadette’s fake death is made much more of a big deal, and there is a lot more suspense in the final. Without any tension, it wouldn’t hold any weight, so this change was necessary. The First Final Plan The arc had various ways in which it could’ve ended, with length being the principal factor. There were fifty-seven chapters originally, with most of the changes happening in the Star Festival segment. Toadette was meant to escape the festival rather than battle. Furthermore, the Star Festival was originally held in a plaza surrounded by tall buildings that would be destroyed by numerous Bonzai Bills. With all the flame destruction and the skyscrapers, this idea needed to be abandoned, as it unintentionally had too many similarities with the real September 11 attacks, particularly with Mushroom City being similar to New York. Toadette was also meant to be shrunken and forced to dodge her brother from crushing her at some point. It was scrapped because they ended up being on more amicable terms by the end. The Second Final Plan This plan extended the chapter count to seventy, increasing the length of the story by thirteen chapters. Much of it was followed, though changes were made for the final release. Tina/Ace, the tennis girl, was supposed to show up at the festival. But since she was meant to be in hiding for the Scapelli incident at the Mushroom City building, she was cut out. Toadette and Minh were originally set to compete in a 4x4 relay race in the water alongside Penelope and Captain Toad. However, since Penelope got her own special grape-crushing competition with Toadette, Daisy stepped in for her, and I changed the event to an aquatic tightrope challenge. This switch makes me happy, especially seeing Toadette go against Toad. Forcing him to kiss her ass in defeat is the cherry on top. The Star Festival was also to take up four chapters in this plan, with the attack spanning two of those. However, it was shortened to three for two reasons. One, the attack was very violent originally, and it might have been too disturbing. The final result is still brutal, but having it condensed to one chapter helps. Two, I included a flashback to Toadette’s past in Chapter 66, where we see how she felt about moving to Mushroom City. I aimed to stop this arc firmly at 70 chapters, not 71. Going in line with the violence, Dane T. was said to be okay after the Star Festival attack, just with “mild scrapes”. I changed this because Toadette needed a bigger loss for this event to truly be burnt into her mind. Scrapped Sexual Assault Situation Chapter 48 (After-School Battle) is partially a flashback chapter to Toadette in fifth grade. In it, we see how much she dislikes Jolene while playing soccer. This was not the original plan in the slightest. It involved their school going to a waterpark for a field trip, and Toadette’s mother was going to be so stingy or broke that Minh had to cover the costs. Once they got to the park, there would be some feet antics to disgust Toadette, but she and Minh were going to find something truly disturbing. They were going to enter the bathrooms and find Jolene providing oral sex to a grown man. And since he knows he’s been caught, he thinks he has to take them all out for his own sake. They were going to run away together, somehow tricking the man into getting himself tangled with security. Either Jolene would’ve elaborated on why she was doing that, or she would’ve told them it was none of their business. The hint was to be that she was just as poor as Toadette, despite not looking as poor. She was prostituting herself. Firstly, I don’t think this would’ve made it on DeviantArt to begin with. I’d gotten away with some stuff in text before, but this is very heavy. Secondly, while I don’t think the idea was unsalvageable, it placed too much emphasis on a character who had nothing else to do with this arc. It’s no secret that Jolene is going to show up someday in this story, as I’ve drawn her before. But what’s the logic of having any major hint of her backstory now when readers will have easily forgotten about it? So yeah, I needed to replace this with the soccer game, and it works better since the flashback highlights how Dane was the bright spot in Toadette’s home life. Of note: Jolene was going to bite the dude’s dick so hard that it bled. This technique was borrowed for Toadette later in the arc, though it was out of envy rather than to escape. The Spanish Translation I have viewers from many different countries, but translating my content can be tough, especially if I want there to be quality. That’s why, starting in 2022, I prioritised having most of my content in English and Spanish before anything else. As mentioned earlier in this special, this language limit is why you don’t need to read Toadette’s Story to understand the drawings, since those have six language options. I began translating Toadette’s Story into Spanish in 2024 to match my other written works. Some chapters are still in the translation process, mainly the middle Mushroom City ones. I intend to complete them before the next arc commences. I’ve chosen to use the Latin American Spanish names for most places and items. However, if the Spain names were the only choice, or if I’ve used them previously, I went with those. I’ll occasionally include both names to make things clearer, treating them as alternate terms within the universe. For example, Thwomp is called Roca Picura (Pointed Rock) in Spain but Don Pisotón (Mr Stomp) elsewhere. Translating from English to Spanish is a whole other discussion, one that is outside the scope of this special. However, I’ll give you some of the more interesting bits. There are generally two types of Spanish translations for media: one tailored for Spain and another neutral version for Latin American countries. For our purposes, we’ll focus on the Latin American (LATAM) version. I see the rationale behind creating a neutral version, as regional slang can be difficult to understand. Additionally, many regions have drastic differences, with Argentina and Chile being prime examples. However, I find that neutralising everything in translations to be a bit dull. You don’t want a story to just be defined by tons of extreme accents, but a little seasoning never hurts. Accents in Toadette’s Story are mostly neutral, but some are a touch more distinct, just like they might be in English. It’s notable with Minh, who speaks with more of a defined Mexican accent. While her dialogue is understandable, she opts for terms like “alberca” instead of “piscina” for pool, unless a term is too confusing. This detail, though minor, helps her stand out more. It’s similar to how she’ll often use “ain’t” in the English version, whereas most characters don’t. For words with multiple regional variations, like the term for “straw” (where every option is somehow inappropriate in a different region), I use the most neutral term. If a neutral LATAM version exists for a word, that is my default choice. For example, while “cake” is “tarta” in Spain, it’s called “pastel” in other regions. Also, in canon, I determine that the language the story is being read in is the official common language. This doesn’t work in all media, but since Mario borrows little from the real world, it’s not an issue. So if you’re reading the Spanish version, the world is chiefly Spanish. If you’re looking at those drawings in French, the world is principally French. So on and so forth. There isn’t a whole ton of foot fetish content in Spanish, despite it being one of the top five most common languages. People have expressed joy that I’m translating my works, as it’s easier for them to read. It’s difficult, but that alone makes it worth it. The Illustrations The art from this era picked up straight from the last one, so the quality wasn’t too different at a glance. This shot from Chapter 30 kicks off the artwork. The most interesting part about it was smearing all that berry juice on Minh’s giant sole. Doesn’t it sound delicious? This was the first time Toadette’s Story also had a giantess element to it. This is not a fetish that I am a fan of; I find it gross most of the time. However, when things are in my own control, then I think I can make it appealing. In this case, though we can’t see Toadette, she’s not ant-sized compared to Minh. She’s just smaller. I feel that once we get to bug-sized fetish material, then it goes from potentially sexy to flat-out lame. I think that illustrations are best utilised when highlighting how a character’s appearance has changed. It’s definitely helpful to me, as I’ll always have a reference for future chapters. Toadette’s main change in Chapter 35 was obtaining shorter hair, and though I tend to prefer long hair, I was very pleased with this design. Not just me, but I remember TheJesterMime saying how he adored it. Minh’s design wouldn’t change much from the middle of the Daisy Arc, and even in the upcoming one, it isn’t as drastic as Toadette’s. But I think that’s fine, as Minh’s design from the original Paper Mario is solid, and my adaptation of her doesn’t need too much change. In Chapter 39, I realised that I would have trouble drawing Captain Toad. The problem is simple: he’s a regular Toad. Not to sound racist, but most male Toads look the exact same. Whether you’re looking at this man in Super Mario Galaxy or Captain Toad’s Treasure Tracker, he is a generic design without his costume. Even in the 2025 arc, I’m struggling to make him super distinct. Though considering how few regular Toads you see in illustrations, it’s not yet a major issue. This illustration contains another vehicle and a moving background. It also isn’t my first time depicting a foot scene on a train, as I had done so in 2020 three times. Though the teasing factor with Toadette’s shoes makes this one stand out. You can see why I like her design now, right? Hot damn, those ripped jeans and that crop top are killing me. I remember this illustration from Chapter 41 being my favourite among the Toadette’s Story drawings when I made it, and it’s still up there. It has everything: the cute girl, the deep blue toenails, the flip-flops, the marshmallow trapped under her sweaty toes… What more could a person want? There were also more lighting effects on display during this time, as you can see with the beam. I believe that effect was done by having a dark orange Linear Burn layer and erasing a section of it. It’s worth noting that Minh isn’t seen in her regular outfit past Chapter 37. The reason given is that wearing more generic clothing helps them blend into Mushroom City, but I understand why some would miss her typical attire. It’ll be hard to implement in the upcoming arc due to the season, but I’d like it to return. While I don’t have the image on hand, Toadette’s original young design wasn’t going to be so drastic. But since her backstory involved her running away, I needed it to make sense how her mother wouldn’t just find her. Changing her appearance was the most obvious way. Her uniform here is reflective of what I needed to wear in elementary school. I understood why we needed to wear polo shirts, though I never got why khakis were forced on us. Actually, we might have been able to wear jeans in elementary, but my middle and high schools forbade us from wearing jeans outside of certain occasions. Why? Jeans look cooler. Khakis looks more professional, but I’m not a fan of the beige colour scheme. Continuing with designs, I have some sort of addiction to warm hair that is very puffy. Because not only did my user avatar have this style, but Minh kind of has it, and now Toadette’s mother has it. I couldn’t tell you why. Designing original Toads is harder than you’d think, as I try hard to avoid repeating too many elements. This was easier with Toadette’s mother, as she’s completely original. Dane T. is actually in Paper Mario, however. You might not remember him, but he’s the kid who likes watching the trains; he’s part of the long letter chain required to obtain the Lucky Day badge. Jugem is the Japanese name for Lakitu. I remember the name was accidentally retained in Super Mario RPG’s American version. Other than the CRT effect being emulated here, which is something I’m a sucker for, you can see that it was young Minh T. where I started to give her painted lips. I didn’t think I’d care for the aesthetic much, but it fits her better than it’d fit Toadette. Peach’s kimono is based on an outfit from Super Mario Odyssey, though I initially thought it was from some regular 2D art. There is a ton of cool Mario artwork you can find from Nintendo, all the way from the ‘80s to now. It’s the 2D ones that stick in my mind more, as while 3D Mario still looks great, I think most series look better in 2D. You can just better stylise 2D in a way you can’t with 3D. Sonic is a series where this is especially true. I hope it’s obvious by now how much of an emphasis I put on lighting drawings. Oddly this doesn’t come from any art experience I had, as I only took art classes from grades six to eight. It comes from what I learnt about cinematography and lighting within my high school film class. A lot of those techniques and principles have stuck in my head, and I’ve just transferred them to my art. It’s more apparent in Toadette’s Story since not everything is solely focused on feet, so we get more varied shots than elsewhere. It was around Chapter 64 that I began to implement a technique picked up from TheJesterMime: soft highlights and soft shading. It’s a very subtle technique, but it can give objects are more three-dimensional look. While I initially disliked it, I’ve come to appreciate its uses. Chapter 66 was truly something special. Not only did I deliberately break the 4:3 aspect ratio after fifty-six chapters of consistency, but this one has some animation. I loathe drawing dresses, but for the Star Festival, Toadette couldn’t go out looking like a bum. She needed some style. When you mix the dress with Daisy’s old heels and Toadette’s lipstick, she looks the prettiest yet in all the story. That dress was a headache to get onto her, especially as transparency complicated things. But when taking on a challenge, I aspire to see it through to the end. This one went through three complete revisions, with some suggestions from TheJesterMime in regard to Minh. In the end, it was all worth it. I just wanna drop to my hands and knees and smother these women’s feet in kisses. The fact that Toadette has her toes lifted on her left foot drives me nuts. I don’t know what it is about that specific look to the foot, but it has always been one of my favourites: seeing the toes rise from a neutral position, just slightly showing the balls of the feet, as well as the pads. It’s a very particular angle and trait, and yet I can’t help but enjoy it. And Chapter 67 continued the flare with this animation of Princess Daisy. For her one main chapter since her own arc, she sure ate up all the budget. At this point, I was just having fun surprising people with these little bonuses. The toe wiggle her looks a little different from my previous works, and the reason is that I didn’t bother having them all in sync this time around. You can see how the pinkie toe is both faster and delayed compared to the other ones. It’s a more realistic touch, and I’m sure it popped some boners or wetted some cunts. Chapter 67 is the last chapter to have illustrations at this point, and it ends them with two fantastic ones. I didn’t think I’d have it in me to do a family shot of these three Toads, but I’m glad I pushed through. It was very difficult posing them together, especially as I’m conscious about the feet being blocked. But just envision yourself down there, in Minh’s position. You’re smelling three pairs of ripe feet, able to indulge in your fetish without suspicion because it’s treated as some kind of game. If that’s not a reward, then I don’t know what is. I’ve also relied on less pre-existing textures for these drawings, instead opting to draw my own bricks and wood and cobblestone. It’s so much more tedious, but as a result, the characters blend in with the background better. Exploring the Characters Toadette: Trip to Wonderland The beginning of this arc makes you think Toadette’s dislike of feet is going to remain throughout. When she’s crushing berries with Minh, the kinkiest she gets is licking the juice off her own foot. She likes the taste, but perhaps it’s just from the berries and not her foot. But everything changed before she even set foot in Mushroom City. Beginning with her feet, one of the more interest elements of this arc for me was giving her various footwear. Between sneakers, flip-flops, slides (those bulky sandals) and heels, Toadette’s feet get to have more diverse treatments. And in some cases, they screw her over; she can’t walk that efficiently in heels, and her feet don’t stink in flip-flops or slides. As a result of the latter point, she uses the stink power of her feet less in this arc. Though I don’t consider it a problem, as she manages to gross out one specific person with it. Having her begin to develop a proper foot fetish wasn’t in the plans. To be exact, she would’ve developed one eventually, but I wasn’t making it a priority for this arc. It just happened to occur here, and I don’t think it’s rushed, considering that you’d have seen her spend at least twenty-nine chapters around feet. Not that exposure to feet will automatically make people like them, but it can happen. In a similar vein, Toadette grows more and more aroused by Minh in this part of the story. This is coming from the same girl who just a few chapters ago expressed disgust at the idea of getting with a girl. Yet her last positive memory at the 2011 Star Festival is having kissed Minh on her lips. I ultimately wanted her to be in Minh’s shoes, or rather, a young Minh’s shoes: realising she likes more than the expected gender and that she also likes feet, something that must be kept a secret. Concerning her family situation, that was hinted at in the Daisy Arc, after the girls returned from the Dry Dry Ruins. I pretty much had their dynamic playing in my head before that arc was completed. I will elaborate on her mother and brother later, but let’s talk about Toadette’s decision to run away from her family. One of the things established is that Toadette seemed truly ignorant to the fact that they thought she was dead. She not only says it directly to Minh, but she also hints at being confused in the final chapter, which is a flashback. Personally, even though she insists she didn’t believe this, I consider her an unreliable narrator. Interpret her perspective however you like; your opinions are just as valid as mine. But come on, how can she barely survive a bomb attack and not expect her mom to think she died? Toadette may not be the brightest, but she has a brain. I feel like deep down, she knew there was a chance they’d think she had died, but she couldn’t accept that reality. While she didn’t mind hurting her mom, the thought of causing her brother that much pain would’ve been too much to bear. The fact that she went through with running away highlights a consistent part of her character: if she’s determined to do something, she’s going to get it done. Most of us would’ve said we were running away, then we’d get no further than the driveway. By the end of this arc, she finds herself at a crossroads in terms of wanting to hook up with either Minh or Captain Toad. Granted, she has way more reason to go with Minh, as they’ve known each other for long. Minh is also ten times nicer than Toad. But Toadette is ultimately a woman with a yearning for cock, so… I had her in this stage of being their friend with benefits, as to be honest, even I couldn’t commit to whom she’d be with. She’s young, so it makes sense that she wouldn’t want a hard commitment. Minh T.: Marshmallow Soles The big difference with Minh in this section of this story is that you see more emotions from her. Namely anger. She could display sadness or fear in the previous arc, namely after all the Shy Guy stuff, but rarely was she livid. Here, while she remains her upbeat self, she is better fleshed out to feel like a three-dimensional character. Her technical know-how skills are more on display this time around. One would expect her to be very old-fashioned due to her gardening background; it invokes the vibe of a farmer. Yet Minh reveals herself not only capable of flying a plane (Chapter 37) but also playing video games (Chapters 39 and 62). That’s the thing about Minh: it’s easy to think she’s a dumb goofball because she presents herself in a childlike way. But in many ways, she is maturer and smarter than Toadette. Unlike Toadette, she liked school. She spent as much time hitting those books as she spent sucking sweaty dicks. She also worked a proper job at a younger age, whereas Toadette was getting by on various shady jobs. I don’t subscribe to the Rian Johnson school of subverting expectations just for the sake of surprise. It’s just that in Minh’s case, most her quirks don’t feel contrived. One could argue it’s crazy that she can fly a passenger jet, but it’s waved off by the fact that she’s played several video games before. And as somebody who has played flight simulators extensively, I can tell you that flying is not hard. Even navigating isn’t hard as long as you know how to read the display, or in Minh’s case, are looking for the skyline of Mushroom City. The difficult part comes from landing and taking off, and Minh has a brutal landing. This arc has me feeling sorry for her a lot. She has to deal with Mega Mushroom pain, Boos, landing a plane, getting banned from an arcade, confessing how she’s been stressed for all this time due to Toadette’s family drama, saving Penelope in a kart race and losing use of both her legs for a month. But she’s a fighter, so she keeps going strong. No one has broken her spirit yet. Because Toadette admires Minh’s feet so much more here, it means we get to admire her feet more as well. The descriptions are much more vivid this time around, and it gets me hungry for her soles. One of the changes made in this arc is the emphasis on Minh’s weight and body type. Originally, I had her simply thinking she was bigger and being conscious about it. But as this arc evolved, she slowly got plumper in the art, and it’s stressed that her feet are wide and meaty, in contrast to Toadette’s skinner and dainty feet. It’s good to have variety with the feet anyways, but I’m liking the approach to having her be larger on the whole. I’m generally not a fan of fatness due to the health concerns—that’s a long topic with too much nuance for this discussion—but I don’t mind some natural chubbiness. Meatier feet are especially godly because of the nature of the pressure. Just imagine a strong, meaty foot pressing down on your face as hard as it can. It’s gonna feel more like a firm pillow compared to a regular foot, and that imagery gets me going. Minh’s nails are consistently painted blue for this arc after Chapter 35, and I think the colour suits her well. I originally had my doubts, but it works as well for her as black does for Toadette. And though it may be obvious, I enjoy that her main footwear happens to be flip-flops. No matter where she goes, her shoes of choice are those amazing, strapless sandals. I adore flip-flops and the various ways they curve around the feet. As a bonus, there are chapters here in which she goes barefoot through town. The bottoms of her feet get incredibly dirty throughout this arc, a nice contrast to Toadette’s sweatiness and muskiness. Fortunately, Minh’s role as a secondary protagonist will continue in the next arc. And we’ll get to see her use her plumpy, ripe, spicy feet in more sensual ways. Captain Toad: That Asshole Captain Toad is a fuckboy, man. There is no denying how unlikeable he is in his debut chapters, which are 36 and 39. He loves tugging on Toadette’s braids like he’s about to ride a horse, and he’s rude to both main girls. This differs greatly from his canon Mario portrayal, where all we can assume about Captain Toad is that he’s this happy-go-lucky treasure hunter. I consider it a more grounded take on the character. He’s not just a treasure hunter here; he works as one of Princess Peach’s closest guards, having a big hand in the castle’s defence. Even with Toadette not having an easy past, Captain Toad saw worse images, and so it’s in his nature to act tougher. He also surrounds himself around a more masculine atmosphere. When writing such an unlikeable character, you have to give them traits that are redeeming. You have to establish a reason why the other characters tolerate being around them. In Toad’s case, they continue to hang out with him because he’s genuinely useful. He might be a hothead at points, but this is more of a dealbreaker for Minh, as Toadette doesn’t always think slowly either. Unlike either of the girls, he knows how to use weapons, with us mainly seeing him use a gun here. That itself was a decision I had to weigh, as it does feel off for Mario characters to use firearms. But Mushroom City is explicitly shown to have far more of a human influence than Toad Town. Conventional weaponry is part of the city’s criminal identity. He’s also smarter from a tactical perspective. In Chapter 40 (As Minh T. Wishes), Toadette starts the plan about running to the subway. Minh comes up with the Mini Mushroom idea. But it’s Toad who merges both ideas to plan the perfect escape. His introduction comes at a good time, as he shows up once Toadette is realising she kind of likes feet. At the very least, she thinks Minh’s feet aren’t too bad. And yet she’s staring into a mirror, hearing the same critiques she launched about how feet are gross. Because of Captain Toad, Toadette is in Minh’s old position of having to convince somebody that feet can be appealing. We get hints of his backstory in two moments. He first tells Toadette how he met Minh (Chapter 41), sharing a disturbing tale about having to suck the poison from her filthy, bug-ridden feet, which partially explains his disgust for them. Additionally, he alludes to his mother’s history of not wanting him to date girls during his teenage years (Chapter 62); the English version implies she shot at them, while the Spanish version suggests she gave one of them a black eye. Both can be true. His openly horny tendencies should be relatable to a lot of readers, and in the end, he does have to work harder for Toadette to wanna reward him with what he wants. Will she end up blowing him in the next arc? We’ll see. At least he got his calcium fix from her milk jugs. T. Ana: Toadette’s Mother Before anything else, we need to explain this character’s name. T. Ana is Toadette’s Spanish name in the original Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. I found it appealing and decided to adapt it for her mother in this story, converting our stink-foot mushroom into T. Ana Junior. But this name is far more complicated. In both Spanish and German, Toadette’s English name is the correct one. However, the problem stems from Vanna T., Chuck Quizmo’s assistant in Paper Mario, as she originally used Toadette’s Japanese name (Kinopiko). Since Toadette was created three years after that game—she debuted in Mario Kart: Double Dash—Nintendo simply reused Vanna’s Japanese name. Consequently the Spanish and German translators of TTYD gave Vanna’s name to Toadette in those versions, but only for this one game. They had no way of knowing Nintendo’s weird naming situation. Therefore, if Vanna ever makes an appearance in Toadette’s Story, it’s gonna be annoying as hell juggling three Toads named T. Ana in the Spanish version. As for Toadette’s mother, we see through the various flashbacks that she wasn’t the best mother. Though, whether she’s as bad as Toadette makes her out to be is up to the individual. My interpretation? She definitely was a bad mother, pumping out two kids without a father in their lives, and unable to even take care of one. She was also physically abusive to Toadette, who clearly had neurological problems. It’s telling when Toadette and Dane were better off at Minh’s house. But even before Toadette ran away, you could see T. Ana trying to do better in those later years. She took getting a proper job seriously enough to make the move to Mushroom City. If she were still obsessed with parties and getting drunk, she wouldn’t have done that. And the fact that she doesn’t hold anything against Toadette after she ran away speaks to how she accepts responsibility for her actions. I think her coming to Toadette’s rescue during the Star Festival, comforting her as her arm is broken, is another example. To an extent, Toadette’s dynamic with T. Ana mirrors my own familial dynamics. I’d rather not get too specific, but basically, I viewed my mother as abusive when I was a child. However, the older I got, the more I realised that I did not have anything close to an abusive childhood. There were things that could’ve been better, but it’s obvious that my mom was doing her best while being dealt a shitty hand, similar to T. Ana. And, you know, I never got beat so bad that I was bleeding. Thank God. T. Ana’s chastising of Toadette as a child for being a potential slut is based on things I’ve witnessed. It’s just that it’s typically the father or an older brother who is sexually overprotective about their daughter or younger sister, forbidding her from having sex. They also threaten any boyfriend, especially if he wants to sleep with her. While it’s understandable to want to protect your daughter or sister from being taken advantage of, eventually you have to ask if these men want to bone their own relative. Girls have sexual independence. They’re not all sheltered weaklings, where sex is this scary power boys wield that will destroy their souls. This dynamic is particularly ludicrous, given that Toadette had no chance of having sex in her youth. I’m sorry, but it’s true. Even if she secretly yearned for intimacy (Chapter 54), she was socially awkward, unpopular, smelt like B.O. and feet, and she was poor. The two people who would do anything to have sex with her happened to be a boy she wasn't a fan of and Minh. Everything was stacked against this poor teen, so T. Ana’s overprotectiveness comes from her own irresponsible adolescence. After all, it was she who gave birth to Toadette while in high school. I was worried that the only drawing I’d be confident making with her would’ve been the one from Chapter 48. I get nervous whenever sharing a drawing that has a complete original character, fearing there will be the inevitable, “Who is this?” It sounds like a basic question you want to get, but I don’t know, it makes me feel embarrassed. As in, it’s incredibly flattering that people want to know, but I can’t help but feel awkward. Dane T.: Toadette’s Little Bro As I said in the illustration section, Dane T. is originally from Paper Mario. Therefore, he is not an original character, despite feeling like one. Because Dane came later, I was better able to make him distinct compared to Toad. It helps that he also grows up, whereas Captain Toad is already an adult in the proper Mario series. The black headband is a good way to identify him, as well as the brown hair. I’m not quite sure how that hairstyle works, but that’s because Toad caps are annoying to deal with. I’ve explained how they work already, but that wasn’t concrete during this time. While it is incredibly shitty for Dane to have left Toadette look guilty for the burning of the Scapelli building in Mushroom City, you kind of have to respect that he had the balls to do it. Though Toadette was right in being furious, as he put all of their lives in grave danger from that act. His rekindling with Toadette was meant to take longer, and I do wish it had some more length to it. However, I didn’t want to story to get too weighed down with this conflict. He’s clearly not happy with her decision to run away and abandon him, but holding a grudge would be just as destructive as blaming himself for her death for all those years. Teenagers can be irrational, especially those in middle school, but some can have moments of clarity. I’d say Dane is one of them. It is notable how he saves her life three times, when you think about it. He saves her from the Putrid Piranhas, from the Scapellis in the car chase and from Illepacs at the Star Festival. It’s a shame that for his last act, he lost the ability to say a single word. But not everything gets a happy ending. I forget if it’s said in the story directly, but he and Toadette are only half-siblings; they share the same mother yet have different fathers. In real life, I find the distinction between half-siblings and full siblings to be trivial. It can explain small appearance differences, but otherwise, it’s not something I ever think about. Step-siblings are where the disconnect is more obvious, though of course, they’re still legit relationships. The difference in fathers is meant to explain Dane’s brown hair. Essentially Toadette inherited her red hair from their mother and her lavender eyes from her deadbeat father. Dane inherited his brown eyes from their mother (we don’t see that) and his brown hair from his absent father. Sorry, fathers, but in real life, a lot of you tend to disappear on your kids. Fortunately, Minh doesn’t have this problem. The Scapellis People who watched the original Super Mario Bros. movie from 1993 will be familiar with this name. The Scapellis were rivals to the Mario Bros. in that movie, last time I checked. I didn’t bother rewatching it for this story, instead just adopting the name onto Wario and Waluigi’s crime family. Whether they’re all truly blood related or not has yet to be determined, but Wario and Waluigi run this gang. It’s another element borrowed from real life and applied to the more grounded Mushroom City, as New York has tons of crime groups. The main Scapelli we see here is Illepacs. Yes, that is Scapelli spelt backwards; Captain Toad humiliates Minh when he explains this to her. He’s lankier, but past that, he doesn’t have a concrete design. If he truly survived Toadette’s gunshot, which would be a miracle, then I don’t know if I’d give him one. I feel like it’d be too late, but perhaps I could work around it. He’s the main member I’d consider bringing back for the future, since the other significant one, Leo, is unquestionably dead. The idea I had behind him was a guy who puts on a tough act and can be dangerous, but he’s also kind of a bitch when near a superior or when things aren’t going his way. Vanilla's Favourite Chapters Forever Forest Forever (Chapter 31) It’s hard to articulate why I like this chapter so much. In terms of foot activities, it’s low, only having the “torture” with the guard at the beginning. I suppose I love the atmosphere of having to traverse a dark, terrifying forest. It takes the characters deeply out of their comfort zone, and as it gets chillier and begins to rain, it’s as if everything bad is hitting them at once. Not to mention, I think it’s the first time we see Toadette and Minh argue in a profound way. They’ve had disagreements before, but the huffing and puffing coming from Minh here shows that she’s fed up. She doesn’t explode until Chapter 33, but as I mentioned in her character section, I like this more three-dimensional approach to her. Of note, I like the original Forever Forest in Paper Mario, so I aimed to achieve its atmosphere and layout as best as possible here. Chapter 3 of that game isn’t as unsettling as Chapter 4 of the sequel (Twilight Town), but it is still cool. And hey, at least there’s less backtracking. Sneakers, Pedicure, Sleep (Chapter 35) This can be considered analogous to Chapter 6 (Preparation) in the Daisy Arc, as it is the setup to the real meat of this story. However, unlike that one, I think I knocked it out the park with this one. It’s a very packed chapter, containing the girls shopping for shoes, getting pedicures and getting new makeovers. Well, Toadette gets the shoes and makeover, but Minh still paints her own toes blue. It’s the character interactions that carry this, with Toadette’s focus on Minh’s feet messing with her. Illustration-wise, despite the second one being more impactful, I really like the shot of their feet. I normally don’t care for the tops of the feet, so that’s impressive. Popcorn Toes (Chapter 38) This was the longest chapter when it was posted. It has no illustrations, and the concept is simple: Toadette and Minh go to a movie, and Toadette tries to get closer to Minh’s feet. It’s a wind-down chapter after the craziness that was landing the plane. Despite being a single chapter, it feels like a whole short story. It’s split into three parts: the walk, the photo booth and the cinema. Around this time is when chapters started to grow in length. They went from being merely 1.5K words each to around 3-5K words. My mindset is that if you’re going to release something weekly, you want it to last so that it feels like an event for the fans. You don’t want them to have to wait a week for a short chapter that doesn’t advance the story or tell you anything about the characters. That said, the actual content still matters more. You can write 100K words, but if your work isn’t resonating with people, then you’ve messed up. Minh is bemused by Toadette’s disgust of dirty feet, highlighting how it’s just a little dust and nothing harmful. And in the end, she proves herself right, as Toadette is forced to deal with the dirtiness just to enjoy licking her feet. Inside the cinema, we get to see Toadette masturbate for the first time. She doesn’t get to climax, but it’s obvious just how badly she wished to. The entire worship section with Minh’s feet is one of the better ones I’ve written for this story, and Minh isn’t even actively engaged for much of it. It’s a moment of “ignoring foot worship”, something not too common in my works. This chapter is a nice bright spot before things get serious in the following one. Tangled Tickle Torture (Chapter 45) The chapter starts with Minh and Toadette about to drown, as they have to burst open a pipe to escape the flooding Piranha Plant Slide. Once they escape, however, they find themselves trapped in a new situation: Putrid Piranhas that are trying to poison them by licking their feet. The illustration is the real highlight here, but there are other things I love in this chapter. Toadette outright confesses to Minh that she loves her feet, and Minh hilariously reacts by admitting how that’s proof that Toadette is losing her mind. This counts as a form of bondage, which isn’t common as in Toadette’s Story as you’d expect. And it’s uniquely plant-based bondage, something that should be more fitting in Minh’s home. Also, isn’t it neat that Minh gets those delicious armpits licked? This chapter finally serves as the proper meeting between Dane T. and Toadette after so much time has passed. Minh’s plant knowledge comes into effect, and since he doesn’t heed her warning, they’re all paying the price. It’s just a fun chapter with the tickling, and the action bits serve to make it more memorable. Let the Games Continue (Chapter 67) This chapter honestly speaks for itself. I’ve talked about the Daisy image and the image with Toadette’s family, and both those are highlights. It’s the final chapter before the attack on the Star Festival commences, and as such, there is no negative drama to be had. Like 66, it is focused on pure fun, especially with Toadette in her intoxicated state. Between the tightrope section and the worship section, it’s just such an uplifting chapter. Toad gets what he deserves for being so arrogant, Daisy makes a return, Minh is able to lick tons of feet, and Toadette’s bond with her family has never been tighter. And it’s topped off by Toadette finally kissing Minh on the mouth while the Star Bits rain from the sky. Adiós to Mushroom City (Chapter 70) This chapter is mostly a flashback to Toadette’s escape from Mushroom City when she was 13. As such, the fetish element is mostly reserved for the ending, where we’re back to the current day. It’s cute to see her mess with Captain Toad and text Minh, but my liking of this chapter is primarily for the story. I think I captured the depressing vibe of running away well, as well as the realism of how these acts affect others. Toadette might’ve thought that she wasn’t hurting her friends, but Minh is so livid at seeing her in Toad Town. You’d never think Minh would be the one to give somebody a broken nose, but you don’t want to piss off the sweet ones. Toadette is clearly in the wrong here, and none of the characters pretend like she isn’t. “Heh. I’d rather jump into lava than do that, you grimy-foot-having, baby-voice-having, cum-guzzling slut! Go eat a million dirty dicks! Seriously, it’s the only real thing you’re talented at, you fat fuck!” I think that is the harshest line she has said to Minh, especially knowing how sensitive she is about her body. During this chapter, you feel sorry for Minh more than anybody else, as it’s clear just how loyal a friend she is to Toadette. Even in the present, there are times where Toadette doesn’t fully appreciate her, but their past had many more moments like this. This chapter marks the return of Russ T., which is neat. At first, I thought his character would become irrelevant because Captain Toad is also not dumb. But he’s book smart as opposed to military smart, so he has uses in the future. Oh, and the chapter’s title is intentional. Not only did she leave Mushroom City as a child, but she’s leaving it as an adult. While not heavy on sex content, I feel Toadette’s Story has evolved to the point where it doesn’t need that. It’s obviously going to remain a main element, as I wouldn’t want the story to exist without it. Feet are godly. But I feel I’m able to tell more beyond just endless smut, and that only encourages me to write more. This is a solid end to the Mushroom City Arc. Vanilla's Least Favourite Chapters Unlike the Daisy Arc, the writing quality of chapters in this arc is consistent. Picking a least favourite is even more difficult, as a result. However, something has to go here, and I’m actually picking two chapters. Penelope’s Race (56) and Race Home (57). I don’t think either of these is a bad chapter. In fact, upon rereading them, I like the beginning to Penelope’s Race. But they feel so out of place, even for this story. It’s like I didn’t know how to have something involve Penelope again, so I went with kart racing for the Mario Kart references. I mean, the race is tense, especially once it’s shown that there are Scapellis there, but I constantly forget that this whole racing event existed. Even if I’d given either of these an illustration, I think they should’ve been redone. Or hell, they could’ve been cut and merged with Grabbing My Brother. It’s sad, as like I said, they’re not bad. Toadette straight-up telling Minh how she wants to punch her in the face got a small chuckle out of me. Plus, Minh’s description of how Toadette nearly bit his dick off is another laugh, along with how she scares Toadette by telling her to pick her up. I just wish all of this flowed better, but maybe others don’t mind it. Miscellaneous Facts • The grammar changed during this arc. For some reason, I replaced the pronoun Miss with Ms. But I really don’t like how that abbreviation looks, so I reverted it back eventually. I don’t know why I’m fine with Mr and Mrs but not Ms, but seeing “Ms Toadette” in some chapters looks wrong compared to “Miss Toadette”. • Relatedly, I stopped putting words in all caps. It’s deemed less professional, and it’s redundant when exclamation marks or the dialogue tag can carry the interpretation. I reserve all caps for sound effects, however. • Finally, I prefer to not write an extra ‘s’ when it comes to possessives. However, I would always write Her Highness’s in this way. At some point, I switched it to Her Highness’. • This arc has no unused drawings, unlike the previous arc. But I had the idea of drawing Toadette in her possessed form during the Boo stuff. • Penelope appears in three drawings in this arc, whereas she appears in five (technically six due to the original Chapter 3 image) for the Daisy Arc. Her presence is lessened during much of the Mushroom City arc, simply as a result of the adults being more important. • I forgot to draw Minh’s braids numerous times in this arc, and I had to add them later. • The illustrations for Chapter 55 (where the Toads make milk) were meant to be in Chapter 54, as the flashback wasn’t meant to consume the entire chapter. But this changed when I wanted Toadette’s first orgasm to be shown. • Toadette is said to prefer circumcised penises in Chapter 41. While I’ve written it down, I often accidentally think she prefers uncut penises. This is because Chapter 30 (Fruity Feet) originally had a scene where Toadette tells Minh what turns her on, and uncut penises were the answer. In the final version, she can’t list a turn-on. • In Chapter 45 (Tangled Tickle Torture), Minh mistakenly calls mineral water “miracle water” the second time. I made this mistake because Miracle Water is the item you need to make the beanstalk grow in Paper Mario’s sixth chapter. • Minh’s wide feet are inherited from her father (Chapter 61). “I have my father’s feet, all wide and plumpy instead of thin.” • Dane choosing Wii Play and Wii Sports Resort to play with Toadette and the others is based off my childhood. We didn’t care that Wii Play was another tech demo. The delayed North American release came with a free Wii Remote, and we took advantage. Something about that billiards background is still mesmerising to me, and I love killing those scarecrows. I’ll still pop both discs in from time to time. • The decision to make all Toads capable of lactating, even when they’re not raising a kid, is strictly for fetish purposes. I am a fan of breasts and breastfeeding, and while the human body has limits, these mushroom people can release so much creamy milk for you to feast on. The Next Arc It's 2012, and Peach's dedicated foot slave has returned to Toad Town for good. With her sex drive in overdrive, Toadette gets herself into all kinds of steamy situations, especially concerning her sweaty feet. Whether it's bumping and grinding with her new best friend with benefits Minh, getting tickle tortured by Captain Toad, or dealing with the diverse Mushroom Kingdom citizens, Toadette's toes never stop curling. But not all is peaceful. As revenge for the events of Mushroom City, Wario and Waluigi aim to overtake the Mushroom Kingdom, hunting the fabled Ethereal Stars. And they have allies. Between katana-wielding twins, a robust rapper and a spellbinding mage, these villains prove themselves to be Toadette's trickiest threats yet. The next arc is coming in January of 2025. Here are some things to look forward to. No Fear of Censorship Because I’ve finally accepted that I’m not returning to DeviantArt, the good news is that I don’t need to worry about the content I write. I can get as explicit as I wish, and it can’t be taken down. This is especially true when it comes to “underaged sexualised content”. While this doesn’t confirm I’ll do anything graphic with Penelope, it does mean I feel more encouraged to utilise her in foot scenarios more. Even with the innocent scenarios, at the end of the day, they’re meant to arouse the viewer. Sex can be more detailed, and the feet can allow for some of the kinkier scenarios to shine brighter. More footjobs, more trampling, more sensual massages and tons more to look forward to. New Perspective From here on out, the story will be written in from a third-person point of view. When I originally made Toadette’s Story, I was happy with my choice to write in the first person. While some consider this POV a crutch for amateur writers, I appreciated how it let the readers see the world exclusively through Toadette’s eyes. It didn’t make things easier. However, as I progressed into the latter half of the Mushroom City Arc, the limitations of the first-person perspective became more obvious. Placing emphasis on other characters became a challenge when the narrative was locked to Toadette’s viewpoint. This change will feel jarring if you read Chapters 70 and 71 back-to-back, but it is necessary. It has already been put to good use, as the arc won’t begin with Toadette. Instead, it’ll begin with another character whom you guys enjoy—one who shares your deep passion for feet. This format will allow for better character exploration, more villains, and more scenario variety because Toadette isn’t required to be present for all of them. A Snappier Release Schedule The exact release date is still in the works, but you can expect uploads on Saturdays in the evening (Eastern Standard Time). I’ll take occasional weekly breaks to have time to rest or further refine chapters, ensuring the arc will remain engaging and not drag to long. The entire arc is projected to wrap up in under a year, or possibly a bit over, but definitely not two full years. I’m currently debating if I will upload once per week or twice per week. The latter has the advantage of requiring readers to feel more satisfied, but it would also need a higher production rate to compensate. Should I choose the bidaily format, the story will be released in late January to give myself more time. As always, updates for both the English and Spanish versions will be released together. More Locations Despite both prior arcs requiring the characters to explore the Mushroom Kingdom, they were largely contained to Toad Town and Mushroom City respectively. This new arc features Toad Town as hub world of sorts, with the characters venturing far from it numerous times. Lavalava Island (Paper Mario), Rose Town (Super Mario RPG) and Twilight Town (Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door) are among the given locations. And with those locations come more friends and foes for Toadette to encounter. And without further ado, how about I give you a preview? In English and Spanish. ⚝ 𝓣𝓱𝓮 𝓔𝓽𝓱𝓮𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓵 𝓢𝓽𝓪𝓻𝓼 ⚝ (Contents may be altered with the final release.) The entertainment continued, with Minh’s vaporised footprints staining the tile as she played monster. Hours slipped away in as she bounced from one activity to another with her family. Between playing tag with her cousins and dancing with her father, she felt livelier than she had in the past couple of months. At the same time, the various beads of sweat on her forehead could describe just how fatigued she was. She felt as if she’d just run a marathon. But in spite of her exhaustion, one last tradition awaited her, and she approached it with grace. “The cake is pretty big this year,” she whispered, barely able to believe her eyes as she gazed at the towering structure. Layers of white frosting contrasted with red toppings. “You’re a pretty big girl this year,” her father responded, his hands already on her back. Before she could react, he gave her a small push. But nobody anticipated Minh to fly so far. The sheer slipperiness of her feet caused her to submerge more than just her face into the dessert. Struggling against the thick sea of frosting, she eventually managed to pull her head out and gasp for air. The birthday girl was met with thunderous applause as well as a mouthful of the strawberry cake. “Are you crying?” her mom asked, laughing as she snapped a photo. “It’s so sweet…” “You’ve gotten lighter! Didn’t think you’d be flying so far.” Her dad whistled. “Alright, the kids get to dive in first.” If only I’d gotten lighter… I shouldn’t be eating this, but if it’s my big day… Minh grabbed a big chunk of cake and stuffed it in her mouth, chewing as hard as she could. As she ate, however, she suddenly felt something wet on the bottoms of her feet. Are they getting sweatier? Then she recognised that feeling she knew all too well. A mouth. The breath, the tongue, the teeth—they all sent alarm bells off in her head. She looked up to find her smallest cousins taking turns licking the cake off her feet, while the adults laughed to themselves. In an instant, Minh went from being blissfully peaceful to utterly horrified. Hide your horniness, girl… Her eating came to a crawl. If she made one wrong move, this already awkward scene was going to become the most embarrassing moment in her life. She couldn’t let out a moan. She couldn’t tell her cousins how good it felt that they were sucking on her feet. And she definitely couldn’t get aroused while sitting in a cake that everyone else was going to eat from. Yet the tongues tickled. Minh bit the inside of her lip to not laugh, but it wasn’t as if her feet were full of hardened calluses to protect them. “It’s like cookie dough,” one of the girls remarked, licking along her arch. Minh began to have flashbacks to various times in her past when she’d been tickled. She recalled her innocent laughter as a small girl, when tickling was nothing but a simple game. Then as she developed, tickling went from innocent to dirty, and she’d indulge in her pleasure several times in secret during junior high and high school. In her recent adulthood, she had her adventures with Toadette to look back on… The florist had gotten her feet violated in a desert, was tickle tortured by menacing Shy Guys, almost met her end to several Putrid Piranhas in Mushroom City… But the image of Toadette tickling her feet to wake her up one morning was the hottest scenario of the bunch—a scene so intimate that it left her blushing like the vibrant cake she lay upon. “I’m so glad your feet only touched the edges of this cake.” Sofia snapped Minh back to reality, taking a chunk of the dessert onto her plate. “They smell terrible.” “Do they?” Minh’s voice was almost breaking. “You can’t smell your own…? Yeah, they reek. You all smell that, right?” “My girl is a hard worker just like you, Sofi,” Minh’s father said. “Puh-lease. I deal with rich people on a busy train from sunrise to sunset. Ten times the work compared to selling flowers to…people who don’t have the privilege of being wealthy.” Minh was still in the middle of processing the fact that Sofia could smell the stench rising from her feet. Her cousin’s face of disgust warmed Minh’s heart, causing her to develop an unsettling smirk. “What?” Sofia glared at the cake-covered girl. “I dunno. If the little ones aren’t bothered by my feet, you’re looking pretty weak right now, cousin.” “Minh-Minh, are you telling me to lick your nasty feet?” “I’m not making you do anything.” All of a sudden, Jasmin raised a hand, as if in class. She blushingly crouched before Minh’s right foot, shutting her eyes. Minh’s big toe disappeared past her lips. Then the other toes began to disappear. She sucked on them surprisingly hard, with her head bobbing up and down so rhythmically. The girl’s now frosting-covered tongue slithered from between her lips to lap at Minh’s sole. After seconds of slobbery licking, Jasmin stood and disappeared back into the corner she was so comfortable sitting in. “Hmm, look at that. Even Jazz has got more guts than you,” Minh snarked. Sofia looked around the room, where all eyes were on her. She shook her head in disbelief as she pushed one of the cousins aside to grab Minh’s left foot. Though much of the cake had been licked off, leaving various trails of saliva on her sole, there was a nice, thick piece of cake lodged between her big and second toes. Sofia looked up, taking a deep breath. “I hate you all,” she groaned, wrinkling her nose. —¡Te has vuelto más ligera! —¿No puedes percibir tus propios…? --------------------------------------------------------- I hope you've found this an interesting read, and I also hope to find you as a reader once the next arc commences. |
