Arise, O compatriots, Nigeria's call obey To serve our fatherland with love and strength and faith The labor of our heroes past shall never be in vain To serve with heart and might, one nation bound in freedom, peace, and unity In western Africa, a nation lies With great leaders and hardworking guise Their joy and love, a peaceful sight A happiness that shines, without a fight Their farming and crafts, a simple way No formal education, yet they sway Their happiness, a treasure to see A nation content, wild and free But then came foreigners, with new ways Formal education, and modern days They brought technology, and gadgets galore But tied the nation's freedom, evermore Their traditional practices, wiped away Citizens enslaved, with no say Their horses of dignity, killed and gone Their eagle of strength, weak and forlorn Their flag of peace, a symbol of pain Tears and agony, a nation in vain Their labor, for nothing, it seemed Their lives, not valued, their future beamed But still they struggled, for years and years Until a moment, when they rose through tears With strength in mind, they fought to be free And broke the chains, of slavery Their unity, ignited, like a flame Their freedom, a new nation, with a new name A bolder symbol, of strength and might A nation reborn, in the morning light No more slaves, no more pain Joy and peace, in the nation again The eagle soars, with wings wide spread The horses prance, with dignity ahead One nation bound in freedom, peace, and unity And blessed with peace, and prosperity With love and faith, we'll stand as one And build a nation, where all can thrive, as one! © Wisdom Ubani #freedom |
