man is cruel
If I myself were a powerful god,
I’d start by turning dust to sod.
I’d fill the sea with beasts and cod,
If I myself were a powerful god.

If I myself made all the land,
I’d fill it with grass, and trees, and sand.
I’d make the world under my command,
If I myself made all the land.

If I myself made first breath,
I’d get if joy, and I’d give it death.
I’d make them want to view all depth,
If I myself made first breath.

If I myself made all this work,
Yet I remained the last to lurk,
I’d be sick and gag and start to irk.
I’d make myself a man to love.

I’d watch the men from up above.
I’d watch them care for all my creation,
I’d watch them work through all situations.
I’d watch them kill and watch them fight,
I’d watch them rape and steal and bite.
I’d watch them hug and watch them hit,
I’d watch them turn my world to shit.

And here’s the part where I am glad,
For I’d be too easy to make mad.
I’d storm the earth with waves and fire,
I’d watch people and cities burn entire.
I’d watch them flee out in the road,
I’d watch them run from this load.

I told them once, I told them twice,
I tried, I tried, I tried to play nice.
I gave them food and crop and rice,
I saved them from cold, and plague, and lice.

If I myself were a powerful god,
I’d turn all men back into sod.
I’d spare the beasts and swimming cod,
If I myself were a powerful god.
