Sonnet for the 13 Poetic Days of Halloween Contest
Ichabod Crane, schoolmaster of yore
believed in fanciful horror tales
Those gothic stories of lore
the ones with the boohs and wails

He set his sights on marrying well
he had his future before him
Until like an unlucky spell
he fell prey to the Headless Horseman

On that fateful night he rode
swirling fog and mist did surround
His spooky fate he had sewed
it was a trick but Ichabod was never found

To this day, the Headless Horseman rides
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow still abides
