Hurricane of Lies

Hurricane of Lies

38 lines

Sam Adams, the director of FEMA
Was preparing his staff
For the twin monster storms
Helen and Milton.

They were not prepared
For the hurricane of lies
That started before the storms hit.

In the aftermath
Of hurricane Helen
While the nation was bracing
For the onset of Milton, another monster storm
Barreling down on hard-hit Florida.

What does the former President
And his running mate decide to do?
They hit the airways and the internet
Unleashing non-stop lies, misinformation.

Falsely claiming that
The Federal Government response
Was the worst response to hurricanes ever
That FEMA had diverted resources
To help illegal aliens.

All the local leaders begged them to stop
Spreading lies while praising the President
And VP for their heroic leadership.
Sadly, the lies came coming
As Milton grew closer to shore.

Sam begged them to stop
And let FEMA work.

But neither Trump nor Vancen
Cared about the damage their words
We’re doing to the nation

Struggling to recover
From the epic thousand-year storms
As climate change ran amuck.

Be sure to fully meet the prompt's requirements. For example, yesterday's specified that the person who went into the forest should never come out.

NEW PROMPT

As anyone who's been following the news out of the U.S. probably knows, hurricane season is here again. Something that's been going on for centuries.

On October 10, 1780, the "Great Hurricane of 1780" -- probably the deadliest Atlantic storm on record -- made landfall in Barbados. All told, the storm's casualty level was on the order of 20,000 to 30,000, and this at a time when considerably fewer people were living in the Americas!

For tomorrow, write a story or poem which is set during a hurricane.
