The Status Quo

Money rules the world, despite what they say.
Efforts to challenge this status quo often go to waste.
The wealthy and powerful bend rules and laws,
while the average person faces punishment, guilty or not.

Power rules, protecting the elite.
Civilians suffer, wars ignite,
Their plight is ignored, as power takes flight.
Freedom's lost, as oppression grips tight.

Fear grips the world, despite what they say.
Shots are fired, based on suspicion's sway.
Violence breeds fear, in a deadly way.
Paranoia spreads, night and day.

This bleak reality is perpetuated by those
with money and power.
Truth is distorted, in each passing hour.
Justice is lost, in a hopeless tower.
