Squirrel's wisdom
Last week I built a swing set
for a friend of mine, a squirrel.
You'd think she wouldn't use it,
but she does, that plucky girl.

Next I made a sundial
just with sticks and stones.
I knew she wouldn't use it,
but I'd always wanted one.

Somehow the thing annoyed her,
I was surprised to learn.
She jumped on it and kicked the stones,
it gave me quite a turn.

So vigorous a reception
for a mere sundial to earn,
such engagement, such a spectacle,
it really made me squirm.

Oh little friend, I never knew
how it would hurt your heart
to see me try to measure time,
I wasn't very smart.

So as I bent to set it right,
and all the stones to scatter,
I bend to your wisdom, the truth you knew,
that NOW is all that matters.
