A reflection on the superficiality of love in fairy tale traditions.
One shall raise thy sword for thee, O princess, and thou shalt wait for thy prince. This is how it was meant to be, but what happens if the princess eventually grows tired of being thrown an occasional bone, jewels adorning her wrist, and a meaningless kiss from a stranger? How does that happen again? One can’t understand. A kiss on the hand, just to be polite and perhaps slightly flirtatious, is appropriate for a first meeting. But a French kiss? One doesn’t comprehend how a meaningless kiss can lead to a happily ever after. How can one fall in love simply because of a kiss? What of everything else? Is she pure? Is she demure? What do you truly know of her? Because it’s kind of preposterous to fall in love with a voice. Is there anything beyond strength and handsomeness in a prince? Or is it because you thought he was rich? I believe Belle did it right, but what of everyone else who got married right away? What to do? What does a princess do when she’s tired of the occasional bone?
