A house cannot stand on a shifting foundation.
We were right, we were wrong
We built a future on sifting sand
We sported rose colored glasses
In a house that slid down
The mountainside in a torrential
Rain storm undoing instantly
What had taken years to create

I didn't want to leave you
I didn't want to see you cry
I didn't want to see the problem
Wasn't you, but me
Our paths no longer
Flowed together
You were the scarecrow
On the yellow brick road
I was Eve, looking
For the promised land

I was afraid to be on my own
I was afraid to let go and move on
But that only created a mirrored world
That displayed all our crimes.
So alone I think I need to be
Otherwise I'll ruin you
And I could treat you better
But I'm not that smart

I've lost my innocence
But I've found my self-belief
I have to face the loneliness
And sail a thousand seas
I have to be alone so
I can live a life that is my own
And set you free to be another's wife.
