an Ode to Daenerys Targaryen
Disclaimer

‘Twas the night of the great storm to rage over Dragonstone
As the Queen lay writhing in throes of dying labour
While battleships of enemies Baratheon lay waste
The last remains, of the Targaryens, into turbulent seas

So, she came to be, the princess that was promised
With hair of silver moonlight and eyes of lilac sunrise
Her whispered name ‘Danerys’ a tribute to those who came before
Their wisdom to guide and lead her to the rightful throne

Yet the storm was not undone, for the defeated lay restless
Eager to appease the whims of their conquerors
Dire plans hastily made to surrender the children into
Hands of those who would keep them chained forever

Loyal were those who stayed true like Ser Derry the Brave
Who led her across the Seven Seas and into the Free Cities
Where Life’s cruel hands would soon leave her a pauper
With a brother’s dragon blood simmering for his rightful place

His greed would see her freedom sold to the barbaric Dothraki
Who transversed and conquered lands with no fear of Death
To become Khal Drogo’s khaleesi would become her destiny
No tears or pleas for understanding would stir his steely heart

She would suffer his brute displays of inflicted affection
In silence, she would weep for the scars left behind
Simple joys came with the gift of three dragon eggs
So treasured and nurtured within flames tenderly kindled

In time she would learn the ways of the khalasar
Her determined growth a reflection of the need to survive
Soon a new life was stirred within her womb
‘The stallion who mounts the world’ – Rhaego - he would be called

Empowered she becomes with her khal and khalasar in tow
Able to confront he who had always belittled and made her feel small
no more would she tolerate his insults and lies for now she knew
he was too cowardly to claim what was rightfully hers

Viserys, dear brother, she thinks as he is crowned with the purest of gold
I am the true blood of the dragon; she believes with sights set beyond the Seas
With her khalasar she would storm the land of her birth
And sit upon that throne of Aegon the Conqueror’s molten swords

Alas, Death made haste on their journeys to the West
To claim her unborn child and the man she had come to love
Her grief so deep, she made the choice to walk into the flames of his dying pyre
Where she would be reborn, from the ashes, with three new children to call her own.

Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion, they would be named in kind
Their presence a jolt to the world that the dragons had returned
With her conquests from Astapor to Meereen, the word would soon spread
Until all of the Seven Kingdoms quivered in dreaded anticipation

Still, she had much to learn before becoming a true conqueror
With tested battles, cunning slavers, and devious schemers along the way
She would make for herself a loyal Queensguard to give sage advice
Her exploits of mercy and bravery the talk of maesters and maegi

And now, she stands upon the shores of Dragonstone, where she shields the scars
That tell of a long and arduous journey to the waiting Iron Throne
Where all will come to bend the knee

For she is Daenerys Stormborn, the First of Her Name, the Unburnt,
Queen of Meereen, Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men,
Khalessi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains and the Mother of Dragons.

Long may she reign.
