The kids were throwing snowballs.
The snow was falling fast and free.
It was a wintry day.
The forecast called for inches more.
The kids all hoped and prayed.

To them it was a wonder world,
a nice relief from school.
To us it had a different look.
Just nature being cruel.

Yeah, this would upset everything.
Now nothing would get done.
But kids don’t care about that stuff.
All they could see was fun.

We got the boots and mittens out,
and got the snow pants, too.
These winter clothes are getting small.
But, hey, what can we do?

And while the kids went out to play,
I got the shovels out.
My back would get the worst of this,
of that there is no doubt.

The kids were throwing snowballs soon
and I was in their sights.
And it brought back some memories
of ancient snowball fights.

I still remembered way back when
before I got so old.
My friends and I would play all day
and never feel the cold.

That brought a smile to my face,
those memories I had.
When did I lose my fun for life?
That made me kind of sad.

I took a moment to reflect
on past days and on now.
Yeah, I was gazing off in space
when something hit me, POW.

That snowball fight was heating up.
That was an icy blow.
My shovel dropped as I joined in.
“Just don’t eat yellow snow!”
