Daily Flash Fiction - 1-18-23 W/C 201

“I think if we put her head in last, the legs will fit.”

The head is lying on the ground, along with the torso, arms and legs.

Miranda shook her head. “No, the torso first, then the legs. Then the arms. It’s just like a jigsaw puzzle.”

So all the pieces are out. We lay them on the parking lot. Check to see if anyone is watching.

“Okay, so, torso first.”

We lift her torso, throw it in.

Plop!

“Now the legs.”

I take the left, Miranda the right.

Plop, plop.

“So the head is next?” I have the head cradled in my arms. Those open eyes give me the creeps.

“Sure, put her in.”

I tossed that head like a basketball. “Two points!”

“Well, now that never happens in a game!”

We both laughed at the absurdity of it all.

“Arms, Mary. We can’t leave her arms lying about.”

We stuffed the arms down in the garbage dumpster. We looked at that dismantled mannequin. She smiled that creepy smile back at us.

“I wonder what the garbage men will say when they empty this dumpster!”

“They’ll tell everyone about the crazy woman they picked up at the museum!”
