It is an entry for the 48-HOUR CHALLENGE: Media Prompt |
Samantha was scrolling her social media feeds when she saw a post from her friend, Emma. It was Emma’s picture with her new partner, whom Samantha never saw before. Samantha felt jealous as she looked at the happy couple. She clicked on the comments section and saw that someone had left a nasty message. "This is disgusting. You should be ashamed of yourselves." Samantha was shocked by the hateful comment and couldn't understand why anyone would take the time to say something so unkind and hateful. As she continued to scroll, she saw more negative comments and posts for people who were simply living their lives. She was frustrated and angry. The words of Taylor Swift's "You Need to Calm Down" came to her mind. Samantha knew that she couldn't change the minds of those who were spreading hate, but she could take a stand against it. She decided to create a social media post to convince and encourage people to be good-hearted and acceptive to others. The post received a lot of attention, both positive and negative. Samantha was surprised that many people thanked her for speaking up and encouraging them. She also received some hateful messages from people who disagreed with her views, but she simply ignored them. Over time, Samantha became more vocal about her beliefs and started to use her platform to spread positivity and love. She was inspired by the message of "You Need to Calm Down" and the idea that shade never made anybody less gay. She realized that everyone deserved to be treated with respect and kindness, irrespective to their gender, sexuality, race, or any other characteristic. In the end, Samantha learned that she could make a difference, even if it was a little. She continued to raise her voice against hate and negativity and spread the message that we all need to calm down and treat each other with kindness and acceptance. Word Count = 320 |
