A poem on technology. A young girl highlights the benefits and demerits of it |
Yes of Course! (A poem on Technology) There was a time, when we had just smart people Then there came smart phones, smart cars, and smart TVs And we'll soon have smart homes One invention after another, achieving milestones upon milestones Now smart people are those that know how to use smart devices And a smart country is one that has embraced technology But will these smart devices make our lives better? Yes of course! Now I can work in China, study in the US, And date someone from South Africa All while living in Kenya I can attend church from home And have a meeting while travelling I can listen to music anywhere And watch my favorite Netflix series on bed Is there still more to technology? Yes of course! I don't need to meet prominent entrepreneurs to get business advice Or find a doctor's appointment to know what ails me All information is available online, and it is free From directions, to facts, and recipes But can it sometimes be false? Yes of course! I don't need to travel to Japan to buy my car Or go to France to purchase my apparel Everything, from electronics to flight and concert tickets And even food! Can be bought online Oh, how easy But can I sometimes be scammed? Yes of course! I can meet friends online I can read their posts, view their photos, and watch their videos I can be inspired and influenced by them I can learn new skills and understand other cultures We can organize to meet and greet But can it sometimes be unsafe? Yes of course! Technology, technology. Technology is everywhere Technology in agriculture for increased yields Technology in construction for stronger houses and roads Technology in health to save more lives Technology in transportation to save time Need I continue to mention its benefits? Yes of course! Does your company still keep records in a book? What about your school? Oh, how old school! Every firm now has an IT department And every organization, an online database CCTVs mounted everywhere for security And robots taking up tasks everywhere Do we still have a long way to go? Yes of course! Start by teaching your child how to use a phone Let your daughter learn to code And encourage your son to learn new devices Else they'll be faced out of the future But let them proceed with caution Because does it carry demerits? Yes of course! But that will not stop us Five years from now, I want to drive a smart car And live in a smart house, while heading a smart firm I have a dream that is largely founded on technology For a better life, better food, and better environment So when Technology asks me, "Young girl, shall we?" I hope you will join hands with me and in unison say "Yes of course!" |
