Daily Flash Fiction 11-19-22 W/C 278

Well, so far nothing has worked out as planned. When you paint yourself into a corner, there’s no way out. Or that’s what they think.

So I stick to my original plan, not deviating as I have recently. They’ll be back to check on me in a few hours, bringing me the ultimate way out.

“Confess or die!” That was their challenge when I was stuck in here. Confess to the crime or die by poison cup.

Jerry was to help me escape, he failed me. Caught in the act, he was eliminated. Then they sent Matt. He also failed. Trying another method, they sent Veronica. She almost made it work, she was so close to getting me out of here.

I am back to square one, as I mentioned, the original plan. I now know the poison they use. I also know the antidote. So I can take the poison, and escape as a corpse, only to be revived on the outside by Bill.

Bill poses as my attorney. We planned it all just this last week. He’s got the information gathered, all the medications on hand. Now we just wait for the challenge.

And I hear them coming. Today’s the day of my escape.

The jailer tells me again, “Confess or die.”

“I choose death,” I state calmly. “I am ready to drink the poison.”

The jailer lets out a chuckle. “I’m sorry. We’ve changed our protocol. That is no longer an option. Follow me.”

He leads me to a room with two doors, one red and one black.

“One door leads to freedom, one door leads to death. Your choice.”

Again, painted into a corner.
