Magical castles, faraway lands,
Hold a special mind place, while I
Stay warm and comfy, caressing
The pages of a well-loved book.
My imagination floats to mermaids
In Trinidad, ruins in Kabul,
Mysterious happenings in Laos,
Scotland and Ontario.
The Irish doctor, a Buddhist monk,
An Ojibwe girl by a lake
All inhabit locales I may never see,
Situations and woods I’d rather avoid.
As I travel across time and space
To countries and peoples unknown
Experiencing their loves, trials, sunsets -
Feeling a part of their world.
Then setting them down quietly
With some regret, I go to the kitchen
To chop onions for supper.
