A reminder of the many awful legacies from 9/11
I watched on the screen
From so far away.
Not understanding.
Like all on the day.

Disasters unfolding,
Like nothing before,
No-one believing
Such hate could ensure

The murder of thousands
No answers to why.
Planes screamed through buildings
From a bright blue sky.

People bereft now,
For those they have lost.
Scarred by the terror,
The now, living cost

Of those who survived,
Or those left behind.
Those sent to fight,
In order to find,

The root of the hatred,
To seek out, to kill.
Take out the poison,
So, the rest lose their will

To return to the place,
They tried to destroy.
But the price for those soldiers,
Who were then to deploy,

Was dire and dark,
The fight wore them down.
Physical, mental,
Some felt they would drown.

Sights, sounds and feelings
Have taken their toll.
On all who were willing,
To fight for a goal.
