Feb 26 “Kidney”
The droplets of condensation sizzled as I carefully removed the scalding lid. With an old wooden spoon I gave the broth a quick stir. Now that it had been simmering a while, it was time to add the kidney beans. I popped open a silver can over the sink, gave it a quick rinse under the cold tap, and gave it a hearty shake into the steaming pot.
February 28 “Fling”
As the last sour note springs from his instrument, he lets down his head with a shallow sigh. In the precipitous silence, the audience has not yet made up its mind. He blinks his eyes up into the white hot stage lights, accusingly fixed on him. It’s times like these he’d like to fling his instrument into the dark void of the crowd.
