This was a poem that I wrote in 2020, a few months after the pandemic hit. |
On Happenings A happening so jarring Fell upon us many moons ago, Thieving away our normalcy And giving us a bleaker one. A happening about An uncertain near-future. A happening that irked many And collected the interests Of starved conspiracists and Misinforming leaders. A happening postponing Countless events that Even desolate souls were Excited and hopeful for. A happening that looted away Not only people's dreams, But also their livelihoods, Turning the humble helpers into The unhumble desperates. A happening that turned The outgoing student Into the hollow shell that, Before it's glaringly bright screen, Inhales words and exhales The same subsequently. A happening that turned The logical student Into the uninterested pile Of bones and flesh, That seldom responds To the unrested teacher. A happening about a Newer global crisis, One that overworks Death, And would soon be history. But a tragic one, indeed. A happening that, Like all happenings, Too shall pass, And be nothing but A sour and distant memory That no one will let you forget. |
